What You Will Need
- Eve Flare Portable Light
- Charging base (included)
- USB power cable (included)
- iPhone or iPad with the Eve app installed
- Apple Home hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad) for remote control and automations
Step 1: Charge the Eve Flare
Before using the Eve Flare for the first time, place it on the included charging base. Connect the charging base to a power source using the USB cable. The Eve Flare charges wirelessly through the base and does not need to be plugged in directly. A full charge takes approximately three hours and provides up to six hours of continuous use at full brightness. The LED on the base will indicate charging status.
Step 2: Turn On the Eve Flare
The Eve Flare has a capacitive touch panel on the bottom of the unit. Tap it once to turn the light on. Tap again to cycle through preset colors. Press and hold to adjust brightness. The touch panel allows basic control without a phone, but the full feature set is accessed through the Eve app.
Step 3: Add to HomeKit via the Eve App
- Open the Eve app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Add Accessory.
- Scan the HomeKit setup code on the bottom of the Eve Flare or on the included card.
- The app will connect via Bluetooth.
- Assign the Flare to a room, such as "Patio" or "Living Room."
- Give it a name like "Patio Light" or "Ambient Lamp."
Step 4: Customize Colors and Brightness
In the Eve app or Apple Home app, you have full control over the Eve Flare's color and brightness:
- Use the color wheel to select any color from the spectrum, including warm whites, cool whites, and vivid colors.
- Adjust the brightness slider from a gentle glow to maximum output.
- Save your favorite color and brightness combinations as HomeKit scenes for quick access.
Voice control works through Siri with commands like "Hey Siri, set the Patio Light to red" or "Hey Siri, dim the Ambient Lamp to 20 percent."
Step 5: Choose a Location
The Eve Flare is designed as a portable light with an IP65 water resistance rating, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Popular placement ideas include:
- Patio table — for ambient outdoor dining lighting
- Garden or poolside — as decorative accent lighting
- Nightstand — as a gentle bedside lamp
- Kids' room — as a color-changing night light
- Party or event — placed around the venue for atmosphere
The spherical, translucent design diffuses light evenly in all directions, creating a soft, inviting glow.
Step 6: Create Scenes and Automations
In the Eve app or Apple Home app, create automations to enhance your experience:
- Set the Flare to turn on at sunset in a warm amber tone for outdoor gatherings.
- Create a "Relaxation" scene that sets the Flare to a calming blue at low brightness.
- Use a time-based schedule to gradually dim the light in a child's room over 30 minutes at bedtime.
Step 7: Maintain and Store the Eve Flare
When not in use, return the Eve Flare to its charging base to keep it topped up. The light enters a low-power standby mode when on the charger. If storing it for an extended period, charge it fully first and store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for prolonged periods when turned off, as excessive heat can affect battery longevity.
Tips for Best Performance
- The Eve Flare connects via Bluetooth, so it needs to be within about 30 feet of your iPhone or Apple Home hub for remote control.
- For outdoor use, the IP65 rating means it is protected against rain and splashing water, but it should not be submerged.
- Multiple Eve Flares can be grouped in the Apple Home app and controlled together for coordinated lighting effects.
- Clean the surface with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials on the translucent housing.
