What You Will Need

  • Eve Light Strip (2m)
  • Controller unit with power adapter (included)
  • iPhone or iPad with the Eve app installed
  • Apple Home hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad) for remote control and automations
  • Clean, dry surface for adhesive mounting

Step 1: Plan Your Installation

Before removing the adhesive backing, plan exactly where the light strip will go. The Eve Light Strip is 2 meters (6.5 feet) long and can be trimmed at marked intervals if needed, but trimmed sections cannot be reconnected. Common installation locations include:

  • Under kitchen cabinets for task lighting
  • Behind a TV or monitor for bias lighting
  • Along bookshelves or shelving units
  • Under bed frames for ambient nighttime lighting
  • Along staircase railings for safety illumination

Measure the area to ensure the strip length is sufficient before proceeding.

Step 2: Prepare the Surface

Clean the surface where you plan to mount the light strip using a dry cloth or rubbing alcohol. The adhesive backing requires a clean, smooth, and dry surface for a secure bond. Avoid mounting on textured surfaces, wallpaper, or freshly painted walls, as the adhesive may not hold. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying the strip.

Step 3: Connect the Controller

  1. Plug the light strip connector into the controller unit.
  2. Connect the power adapter to the controller.
  3. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
  4. The light strip should briefly illuminate to confirm the connection is working.

Step 4: Add to HomeKit via the Eve App

  1. Open the Eve app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Add Accessory.
  3. Scan the HomeKit setup code on the controller unit or the included card.
  4. The app will connect to the light strip via Bluetooth or Thread if a Thread border router is available.
  5. Assign the light strip to a room, such as "Kitchen" or "Living Room."
  6. Give it a name like "Cabinet Lights" or "TV Backlight."

Step 5: Mount the Light Strip

  1. Starting from the controller end, peel back a few inches of the adhesive backing.
  2. Press the strip firmly against the mounting surface.
  3. Continue peeling and pressing in small sections, keeping the strip straight and evenly spaced.
  4. Press firmly along the entire length for at least 30 seconds to ensure a strong bond.
  5. If you need to go around a corner, gently bend the strip. Avoid sharp folds, which can damage the LEDs.

Step 6: Customize Colors and Brightness

The Eve Light Strip supports full-color RGB and adjustable white temperature. In the Eve app or Apple Home app:

  • Tap the light strip to open its controls.
  • Use the color wheel to select any color from the spectrum.
  • Adjust the brightness slider from dim ambient light to full brightness.
  • Select from warm white to cool daylight using the temperature slider for a more natural look.

You can also control the light strip with Siri voice commands, such as "Hey Siri, set the cabinet lights to blue" or "Hey Siri, dim the TV backlight to 30 percent."

Step 7: Create Scenes and Automations

Use the Eve app or Apple Home app to create scenes and automations.

  • Scenes — Create preset configurations like "Movie Night" (dim blue backlight) or "Cooking" (bright white under-cabinet light) that can be activated with one tap or a Siri command.
  • Automations — Set the lights to turn on at sunset and off at bedtime, or trigger them based on motion from another HomeKit sensor.

Tips for Best Performance

  • If the adhesive starts to peel over time, use 3M mounting clips designed for LED strips as a reinforcement.
  • The Eve Light Strip supports Thread networking when a Thread border router (such as a HomePod Mini or Apple TV 4K) is present. Thread provides faster response times and better range than Bluetooth alone.
  • Avoid overlapping sections of the strip, as this can cause overheating.
  • The strip can be extended with Eve Light Strip extensions for longer runs.
