What You Will Need

  • Eve Thermo (Matter) smart radiator valve
  • iPhone or iPad with the Eve app installed
  • Matter-compatible home hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or other Matter controller)
  • Compatible radiator with a standard thermostatic valve connection (M30 x 1.5 mm)
  • Adapter fittings (included for Danfoss RA, RAV, RAVL, and other common valve types)

Step 1: Identify Your Radiator Valve Type

Before installing the Eve Thermo, check the valve connection on your radiator. The Eve Thermo is designed for the standard M30 x 1.5 mm connection, which is the most common type in Europe. If your radiator uses a different valve type, check the box for included adapter fittings that support Danfoss RA, RAV, and RAVL connections. If your valve type is not supported, you may need a separate adapter purchased from a plumbing supplier.

Step 2: Remove the Existing Thermostat Valve

  1. Turn the existing radiator thermostat to its maximum setting so the valve pin is fully extended.
  2. Grip the coupling nut at the base of the old thermostat and turn it counterclockwise to loosen it.
  3. Pull the old thermostat straight off the valve body.
  4. Inspect the valve pin underneath. It should move freely when pressed. If it is stuck, gently tap it to loosen it before installing the Eve Thermo.

Step 3: Install the Eve Thermo

  1. If needed, attach the correct adapter fitting to the valve body first.
  2. Place the Eve Thermo onto the valve, ensuring it sits squarely over the valve pin.
  3. Hand-tighten the coupling nut clockwise until it is snug. Do not use pliers, as over-tightening can damage the connection.
  4. The Eve Thermo will perform an initial calibration cycle, moving the valve pin to determine its full range. Wait for this process to complete.

Step 4: Install Batteries

The Eve Thermo is powered by two AA batteries. Open the battery compartment on the device, insert the batteries following the polarity markings, and close the compartment. The display on the Eve Thermo will turn on, showing the current temperature and settings. Batteries typically last one to two heating seasons depending on usage.

Step 5: Add to Your Smart Home via the Eve App

  1. Open the Eve app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Add Accessory.
  3. Scan the Matter setup code (or HomeKit code) on the Eve Thermo or the included card.
  4. The app will connect via Thread or Bluetooth.
  5. Assign the valve to the correct room, such as "Bedroom" or "Office."
  6. Name it descriptively, like "Bedroom Radiator."

As a Matter device, the Eve Thermo can be paired with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Samsung SmartThings.

Step 6: Set Temperature Schedules

The Eve app allows you to create detailed heating schedules for each Eve Thermo. Set different target temperatures throughout the day:

  1. Select the Eve Thermo in the app.
  2. Tap Schedules.
  3. Add time blocks with your desired temperature for morning, daytime, evening, and night.
  4. Configure different schedules for weekdays and weekends.

Schedules are stored locally on the Eve Thermo, so they run reliably even if your home hub is offline.

Step 7: Fine-Tune Settings

In the Eve app, you can adjust additional settings:

  • Temperature offset — if the Eve Thermo's temperature reading differs from your room thermometer, apply a correction offset.
  • Window detection — enable this feature to automatically reduce heating when the Eve Thermo detects a sudden temperature drop, indicating an open window.
  • Vacation mode — set a lower temperature for extended periods when you are away.
  • Child lock — disable the physical controls to prevent accidental changes.

Tips for Best Performance

  • The Eve Thermo supports Thread networking for fast, reliable control. Place a Thread border router (HomePod Mini or Apple TV 4K) in the same area for optimal performance.
  • Install Eve Thermos on all radiators in a room for consistent temperature control.
  • Keep the area around the radiator valve clear of furniture and curtains to allow accurate temperature sensing.
  • Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display to avoid interruptions in heating control.
