What You'll Need
- First Alert SC5 Smart Smoke + CO Alarm
- Smartphone with First Alert app or Google Home app
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Existing hardwired smoke alarm connection (for hardwired model) or batteries
- Google account (for Google Home integration)
Step-by-Step Setup
- Install the Alarm: Mount the SC5 to your ceiling using the mounting bracket. For hardwired versions, connect to existing wiring using the quick-connect adapter.
- Power On: Insert batteries (for battery model) or connect to power (hardwired). The alarm will chirp once.
- Download First Alert App: Install the First Alert app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Create Account: Sign up for a First Alert account or log in.
- Add Device: Tap (+) to add a new device and select the SC5 Smart Smoke + CO Alarm.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Follow the in-app instructions to connect the alarm to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Test the Alarm: Press and hold the Test/Silence button to verify proper operation.
- Optional - Google Home: Add the alarm to Google Home for integration with existing Nest Protect devices.

Troubleshooting
- Alarm chirping: Low battery warning. Replace batteries promptly.
- Won't connect to Wi-Fi: Ensure you're using a 2.4GHz network. 5GHz is not supported.
- App not finding alarm: Make sure the alarm is powered on and within Wi-Fi range.
- Interconnect not working: Verify all alarms are properly wired to the same circuit.
- Test fails: If the alarm doesn't sound during testing, replace immediately. Do not attempt repair.
