What's in the Box
The GE Cync Direct Connect Smart Bulb A19 Tunable White comes with the smart LED bulb and a quick start guide. This bulb connects directly to your WiFi network without the need for a separate hub or bridge. It offers adjustable white temperatures ranging from warm amber to bright daylight, making it ideal for bedrooms, offices, and living areas where you want to match lighting to the time of day.
Before You Begin
- Download the Cync app (formerly C by GE) from the App Store or Google Play
- Create or sign into your Cync account
- Verify your WiFi router broadcasts a 2.4GHz network — this bulb does not connect over 5GHz
- Ensure your light fixture uses a standard E26 bulb socket
- Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone, as the initial pairing uses Bluetooth
Step-by-Step Setup
- Screw in the bulb. Install the GE Cync Direct Connect Smart Bulb A19 Tunable White into any standard E26 socket. Turn the light switch to the on position. The bulb will start blinking to indicate it's ready to pair.
- Add the device in the Cync app. Open the app and tap the + button. Select Lighting, then Direct Connect Bulbs. The app will begin scanning for nearby devices.
- Enter your WiFi credentials. When prompted, select your 2.4GHz network and type in your password. The app transfers these credentials to the bulb via Bluetooth.
- Wait for the connection. The bulb will stop blinking and hold a steady glow once it successfully joins your WiFi network. This usually takes about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Name and assign the bulb. Give it a clear name such as "Office Desk Lamp" and place it in a room within the app. This makes voice commands and group controls much easier to manage.
- Verify functionality. Toggle the bulb on and off from the app, adjust the brightness slider, and slide through the white temperature range from warm (2700K) to cool daylight (6500K).
Smart Home Integration
The Cync Direct Connect Tunable White bulb works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa right out of the box. Link your Cync account within the Google Home or Alexa app to enable voice control. Try commands like "Alexa, set the office to warm white" or "Hey Google, brighten the bedroom." You can also include the bulb in routines, such as gradually warming the lights in the evening or switching to cool daylight when your morning alarm goes off.
Getting the Most from Tunable White
The tunable white feature is designed to support your circadian rhythm. Set cooler, bluer tones during the morning and workday hours to promote alertness, then shift to warmer, amber-like tones in the evening to help wind down. The Cync app lets you create schedules that automate these transitions, so your lighting adjusts without any manual input. You can also group multiple tunable white bulbs to ensure consistent color temperature across an entire room.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the bulb does not blink when powered on, perform a manual reset by toggling the light switch off and on five times with roughly one-second intervals. The bulb should start blinking after the last toggle. If the Cync app cannot discover the bulb, make sure Bluetooth is turned on and that you're standing close to the bulb. Also confirm your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network rather than a 5GHz band, as the bulb will only connect to 2.4GHz.
