What You'll Need
- Google Nest Cam with Floodlight
- Existing outdoor electrical junction box
- Wire nuts and electrical tape
- Smartphone with Google Home app
- 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network
- Google account
- Screwdriver and drill
- Voltage tester (recommended)
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off power: Switch off the circuit breaker controlling the junction box where you'll install the floodlight. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Remove existing fixture: Unscrew and disconnect any existing floodlight or junction box cover.
- Connect wiring: Connect the Nest Cam Floodlight wires to your home wiring: black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green or bare copper to ground. Secure with wire nuts.
- Mount the floodlight: Align the mounting bracket with the junction box and secure with the provided screws. The camera is already attached to the floodlight housing.
- Restore power: Turn the circuit breaker back on. The camera will power up and the status light will indicate it's ready.
- Open the Google Home app: Tap "+" → "Set up device" → "New device."
- Scan the QR code: Find the QR code on the back of the camera housing and scan it.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Select your network and enter the password.
- Configure settings: Set up activity zones, floodlight schedules, and notification preferences.
- Adjust camera and lights: The camera pivots within the housing and light panels are adjustable for optimal coverage.

Troubleshooting
- Floodlight won't turn on: Verify circuit breaker is on. Check wire connections are secure. Test the circuit with a voltage tester.
- Camera not detected in app: Ensure camera has power (status light visible). Move phone closer during setup. Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
- Floodlight stays on constantly: Adjust the motion sensitivity for lights. Check that "Dusk to Dawn" mode isn't enabled if you don't want continuous lighting.
- Wi-Fi disconnecting: Check signal strength. The metal floodlight housing can affect Wi-Fi—consider a mesh Wi-Fi system if signal is weak.
- Insufficient light coverage: Adjust the angle of the individual light panels. Each panel can be rotated independently for custom coverage.
