What's in the Box
Your Govee Outdoor LED Strip Lights (32.8ft) package includes the outdoor-rated LED strip, a control box, a power adapter rated for outdoor use, mounting clips, cable ties, and a quick start guide. This strip is IP65 waterproof, meaning it is protected against rain, sprinklers, and general outdoor moisture. The 32.8-foot length is ideal for decks, patios, rooflines, railings, and garden pathways.
Prerequisites
- A smartphone with the Govee Home app installed (available on iOS and Android)
- A stable 2.4GHz WiFi network that reaches the installation area outdoors
- A Govee Home account created and verified
- A GFCI-protected outdoor power outlet within reach of the power adapter
- Mounting clips, cable ties, or outdoor-rated adhesive for securing the strip
- A ladder if installing along rooflines or elevated surfaces
- Dry weather conditions during installation for best adhesive bonding
Step-by-Step Installation
- Plan your layout by walking the installation path and measuring the distance. The strip is 32.8 feet long, so confirm your route fits within that length. Identify where the control box and power adapter will be located.
- Clean the mounting surface to remove dirt, cobwebs, and moisture. For outdoor surfaces like wood, vinyl, or aluminum, use a damp cloth and let the surface dry completely.
- Starting from the control box end, secure the strip along your route using the included mounting clips. For horizontal surfaces like deck railings, use clips every 6 to 8 inches. For vertical surfaces or areas exposed to wind, use clips every 4 to 6 inches.
- Use cable ties to secure the strip at attachment points such as railing posts, gutter brackets, or fence posts where mounting clips alone may not hold.
- At corners, create smooth bends rather than sharp folds. Secure each side of the bend with a clip to maintain the angle.
- Connect the strip to the control box. Position the control box in a sheltered location, such as under an eave or inside a weatherproof enclosure, to extend its lifespan.
- Plug the power adapter into a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet. Using a GFCI outlet is essential for safety with any outdoor electrical installation.
App Pairing
- Power on the strip. The LEDs should light up and the control box indicator will begin flashing.
- Open the Govee Home app and tap "+" to add a new device.
- Select the Outdoor LED Strip from the device list or scan the QR code on the packaging.
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone and stand within range of the control box during initial pairing.
- Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi credentials when prompted. If your WiFi signal is weak outdoors, consider a WiFi extender to ensure a reliable connection.
- Name the strip based on its location, such as "Patio Lights" or "Deck Strip."
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Govee Outdoor LED Strip works with Alexa and Google Assistant. Set up voice commands like "Alexa, turn on the patio lights" for convenient hands-free control when you are outside entertaining. Create scheduled automations to turn the lights on at sunset and off at a set time each night. Pair them with other Govee outdoor products to create a unified lighting scheme for your entire outdoor space.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the strip loses WiFi connection frequently, the outdoor location may be too far from your router. A WiFi range extender placed near a window facing the installation area can solve this. If clips do not hold on certain outdoor materials, switch to cable ties or outdoor-rated adhesive designed for the specific surface. While the strip is IP65 rated, avoid submerging the control box or power connections in standing water. If sections of the strip stop working after a storm, check all connections for moisture intrusion and let them dry thoroughly before reconnecting.
