What's in the Box
The Govee RGBIC Light Strip (Matter) package includes the LED light strip, a power adapter, a control box with a built-in microphone for music sync, adhesive mounting clips, a cable management kit, and a quick start guide with a Matter QR code. The RGBIC technology allows individual segments of the strip to display different colors simultaneously, creating gradient and rainbow effects that aren't possible with standard RGB strips.
Prerequisites
Before starting installation, make sure you have:
- A clean, dry surface where you plan to mount the strip (behind a TV, under cabinets, along shelving, etc.)
- A power outlet near your intended mounting location
- A 2.4GHz WiFi network
- A Matter-compatible hub or controller (Apple HomePod/Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub, Amazon Echo 4th gen+, or SmartThings hub)
- The corresponding smart home app for your platform
- The Matter setup code from the included quick start guide
- Rubbing alcohol or a surface cleaner to prep the mounting surface
Step-by-Step Setup
- Plan your layout before peeling off the adhesive backing. Measure the area and decide where the strip will start and end. The strip can be cut at designated cut marks but cannot be reconnected once cut.
- Clean the mounting surface thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely. The adhesive bonds best to smooth, clean surfaces.
- Connect the LED strip to the control box, then plug the power adapter into the control box and into a wall outlet.
- Peel the adhesive backing off in sections as you go, pressing the strip firmly against the surface. Use the included mounting clips at corners or curves for extra hold.
- Power on the strip. The LEDs should begin cycling or blinking to indicate pairing mode.
- Open your smart home app (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings) and add a new device.
- Scan the Matter QR code from the quick start guide or enter the setup code manually.
- Wait for the pairing process to complete, then assign the light strip to a room and give it a name.
App Pairing and Govee Home Features
For basic on/off, brightness, and color control, your Matter platform app is all you need. However, the Govee Home app unlocks the full potential of the RGBIC strip. Through the Govee Home app, you can access dozens of preset scene effects, music visualization modes that react to sound through the built-in microphone, and a DIY mode where you design custom color patterns segment by segment. To pair with Govee Home, open the app, tap +, find your strip model, and follow the Bluetooth-based pairing process. You can use both Govee Home and your Matter platform simultaneously without conflicts.
Smart Home Integration Tips
- Voice control: Once added via Matter, use commands like "Hey Siri, set the TV lights to blue" or "Alexa, dim the light strip to 30 percent."
- Automation routines: Create routines that turn the strip on at sunset in a warm tone and off at bedtime. Pair it with a motion sensor to trigger accent lighting when you enter a room.
- Entertainment sync: Use the Govee Home app's music mode for parties and game nights. The built-in mic picks up audio and syncs colors to the beat in real time.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the strip won't enter pairing mode, unplug the control box for 10 seconds and plug it back in. If it still doesn't pair, press and hold the button on the control box for 5 to 8 seconds to factory reset it. Ensure your WiFi is 2.4GHz and that your Matter controller hub is online and nearby. If parts of the strip appear dim or discolored, check that all connections between the strip and control box are fully seated.
