What's in the Box

Your Govee WiFi Water Leak Detector package includes the detector unit, a USB charging cable, and a quick start guide. The detector features a built-in 100dB alarm and water-sensing probes on the underside that trigger alerts the moment moisture is detected. Before you begin setup, make sure you have a 2.4GHz WiFi network available, as the detector does not support 5GHz bands.

Prerequisites

  • A smartphone with the Govee Home app installed (available on iOS and Android)
  • A stable 2.4GHz WiFi network with the password handy
  • The detector fully charged via the included USB cable (allow approximately 2 hours for a full charge)
  • A Govee Home account created and verified

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Charge the water leak detector fully using the USB cable. The LED indicator will turn solid when charging is complete.
  2. Open the Govee Home app and tap the "+" icon in the upper right corner to add a new device.
  3. Select "Water Leak Detector" from the device list, or scan the QR code on the quick start guide to identify the product automatically.
  4. Press and hold the power button on the detector for three seconds until the LED begins flashing, indicating it is in pairing mode.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the detector to your 2.4GHz WiFi network. Enter your WiFi password when prompted.
  6. Once the app confirms a successful connection, name the detector based on its intended location (for example, "Basement" or "Under Kitchen Sink").
  7. Test the detector by placing a small amount of water on a flat surface and setting the probes in contact with it. The alarm should sound and you should receive a push notification on your phone.

App Pairing and Notification Settings

After setup, open the device settings within the Govee Home app to customize your alert preferences. You can enable push notifications, email alerts, or both so you never miss a warning. Adjust the alarm volume if the built-in 100dB siren is too loud for your space. The app also lets you view a history log of past leak detections, which is useful for identifying recurring moisture problems in specific areas of your home.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The Govee WiFi Water Leak Detector works with Alexa and Google Assistant for voice-based status checks. You can ask your voice assistant whether the detector has recently triggered. For more advanced automations, consider pairing the detector with a smart water shutoff valve so that a detected leak automatically cuts the water supply. Within the Govee Home app, you can also set up scenes that flash your Govee smart lights red when a leak is detected, giving you a visible alert in addition to audio and phone notifications.

Placement Tips

Position the detector on a flat surface with its water-sensing probes facing down. Ideal locations include under sinks, behind toilets, near water heaters, beside washing machines, and in basements prone to flooding. Avoid placing the detector on thick carpet or uneven surfaces where the probes may not make proper contact with pooling water.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the detector fails to pair, confirm it is in pairing mode (flashing LED) and that your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz network rather than a 5GHz one. Restarting the Govee Home app and power-cycling the detector often resolves connection issues. If alerts are not coming through, check that notifications are enabled both in the Govee Home app settings and in your phone's system notification settings.
