What You'll Need

  • Govee WiFi Water Leak Detector with Gateway
  • Smartphone with Govee Home app
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (802.11 b/g/n)
  • Power outlet for gateway
  • AAA batteries for sensors

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Prepare Phone: Connect to your 2.4GHz network. Android: enable Location. iOS: Settings > Govee Home > Location > Always.
  2. Download Govee Home App: Install from the App Store or Google Play and create an account.
  3. Add Gateway: Tap (+) in the app, select your gateway model (H5040, H5043, or H5044).
  4. Enter Gateway Pairing Mode: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button for 3 seconds. The indicator flashes blue slowly.
  5. Connect Gateway to Wi-Fi: Follow in-app instructions to connect the gateway to your network.
  6. Add Water Sensors: After gateway connects, tap "Add a new sub-device" in the app.
  7. Pair Each Sensor: Long-press the pairing button on each sensor for 3 seconds. The indicator flashes red during pairing.
  8. Name Sensors: Assign location names (Kitchen Sink, Basement, etc.) for easy identification.

Troubleshooting

  • Gateway won't connect: Ensure you're using 2.4GHz network, not 5GHz.
  • Sensor not pairing: Only pair one sensor at a time. Pairing mode exits after 30 seconds.
  • No notifications: There's a 90-second minimum between water detection notifications.
  • Sensor not triggering gateway: Reduce distance between gateway and sensor. Avoid obstructions.
  • Enable email alerts: Go to My Profile > Notification settings in the app.
