What's in the Box
The IKEA TRADFRI LED Bulb E26 1000 lumen Color comes with the smart bulb itself and a quick start guide. This bulb produces up to 1000 lumens of brightness and supports the full color spectrum as well as tunable white temperatures ranging from warm to daylight. It uses the standard E26 screw-in base common in North American light fixtures and communicates over the Zigbee protocol with the IKEA Dirigera hub or the older TRADFRI Gateway.
Prerequisites
Before installing your color bulb, make sure you have these items ready:
- An IKEA Dirigera hub (recommended) or TRADFRI Gateway, already set up and connected to your network
- The IKEA Home Smart app installed on your smartphone
- A compatible light fixture with an E26 socket — the bulb draws about 9 watts, so virtually any standard lamp or ceiling fixture will work
- The light switch for the fixture turned off before installation for safety
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off the light switch. Make sure the fixture's power is off before screwing in the bulb. This protects both you and the bulb's electronics during installation.
- Install the bulb. Screw the TRADFRI LED Bulb into the E26 socket by turning it clockwise until snug. Do not overtighten.
- Turn on the power. Flip the light switch on. The bulb should illuminate at full brightness with a warm white light, indicating it is ready for pairing.
- Open the IKEA Home Smart app. Navigate to the home screen and tap the "+" icon to add a new device.
- Select "Light" as the device type. The app will begin scanning for new Zigbee devices nearby. Make sure the bulb has been powered on for less than two minutes, as the pairing window is time-limited.
- Complete pairing. When the bulb appears in the app, tap to confirm. Name the bulb and assign it to a room. The bulb will briefly flash to confirm the connection.
- Test color and brightness. Use the color wheel in the app to cycle through colors and adjust brightness. You can also set the white temperature from warm candlelight (2200K) to cool daylight (4000K).
App Pairing and Controls
Once paired, the IKEA Home Smart app gives you full control over brightness, color, and white temperature. You can create scenes like "Movie Night" or "Energize" that set specific colors and brightness levels with a single tap. Group this bulb with other IKEA smart bulbs to control an entire room simultaneously. You can also pair a TRADFRI remote or STYRBAR remote directly with the bulb for physical control without needing your phone.
Smart Home Integration Tips
Through the Dirigera hub's Matter support, this color bulb can appear in Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. Voice commands like "Hey Google, set the living room light to blue" work seamlessly once connected. For Home Assistant users, the bulb is accessible through the Dirigera integration or by pairing it directly to a Zigbee coordinator using Zigbee2MQTT, which provides even more granular control over color transitions and effects.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the bulb does not appear during pairing, try resetting it by turning the light switch off and on six times in quick succession (one second on, one second off). The bulb will flash once to confirm the reset. After resetting, try the pairing process again within two minutes of powering on. Ensure the bulb is within 30 feet of your Dirigera hub during initial pairing, as Zigbee range can be limited before the mesh network is established.
