What You'll Need

Kwikset Aura Smart Lock
Screwdriver (do not use electric drill)
4 AA batteries (not included)
Smartphone with Kwikset app

Step 1: Prepare the Door

Ensure your door has a standard deadbolt cutout (2-1/8" diameter bore hole). If replacing an existing Kwikset lock, the new lock should align with existing holes.

Step 2: Install the Deadbolt

Insert the latch bolt assembly into the edge of the door. Secure with the provided screws. Install the strike plate on the door frame.

Step 3: Install the Exterior Assembly

From outside the door, insert the exterior keypad assembly. Thread the cable through the hole in the door. Ensure the cable doesn't get pinched.

Step 4: Install Batteries and Interior Assembly

Install 4 AA alkaline batteries into the battery pack (observe correct polarity). With the door open, attach the battery pack to the interior mounting plate - this initiates auto door handing. Watch for the LED indicators:

Solid Green: Door handing successful - proceed
Solid Red: Unsuccessful - check installation and retry

Step 5: Complete Hardware Installation

Install the interior cover by placing it onto the assembly (rotate turnpiece to align if needed). Secure with the provided screws - use the correct screws to avoid damage.

Step 6: Download and Set Up the App

Download the Kwikset app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account and set up your "home." Tap the "+" icon to add your Aura lock and follow the Bluetooth pairing instructions.

Step 7: Program User Codes

Use the app to create up to 250 unique user access codes. You can set schedules for temporary codes and view lock event history.

Troubleshooting

Door handing failed: Ensure batteries are correctly installed; retry with door open
Lock won't turn smoothly: Check strike alignment; ensure you used the supplied latch
App can't find lock: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled; move within 100 feet of lock
