What's in the Box
Your LIFX Candle Color E12 LED Bulb package includes the bulb and a quick-start card. The Candle Color features a decorative candelabra shape with an E12 base, designed for chandeliers, sconces, and decorative fixtures. Despite its compact size, this bulb produces multizone color, meaning different parts of the bulb can display different colors simultaneously for unique lighting effects. No hub or bridge is needed as it connects directly to WiFi.
Prerequisites
Ensure your fixture uses an E12 candelabra base socket. The Candle Color is designed for decorative fixtures like chandeliers, wall sconces, and accent lamps. As with all LIFX bulbs, the light switch must stay in the ON position for the bulb to remain connected to WiFi. Your network must operate on 2.4GHz since LIFX does not support 5GHz. Download the LIFX app and create your account before starting. If you're outfitting a chandelier with multiple Candle Color bulbs, install and pair them one at a time for smooth setup.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off the light switch controlling the fixture.
- Screw the LIFX Candle Color into the E12 socket. The candelabra form factor is smaller than standard bulbs, so handle it carefully. Ensure it's seated firmly but don't overtighten.
- Turn the light switch on. The Candle Color will power up and enter pairing mode, typically showing a gentle color effect.
- Open the LIFX app and tap "Add Device" or the "+" button.
- Select the Candle Color from the discovered devices list.
- Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi network credentials to connect the bulb directly to your router.
- Name the bulb based on its location, such as "Dining Chandelier 1" or "Hallway Sconce," and assign it to a room or group.
- Test the bulb's unique multi-zone capabilities by selecting the "Morph" or "Paint" effects in the LIFX app, which let different sections of the bulb glow in different colors simultaneously.
Multi-Zone Color and Decorative Effects
What makes the Candle Color special is its polychrome technology, which divides the bulb into multiple individually addressable zones. In the LIFX app, select the "Paint" feature to assign different colors to different zones, creating a stained-glass effect perfect for decorative fixtures. The "Morph" effect gently transitions between colors across the zones for a mesmerizing ambient display. The "Flame" effect simulates a realistic candle flicker, adding warmth to dinner settings and romantic ambiance to sconces. These effects look especially striking in crystal chandeliers where the light refracts through the glass elements.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The LIFX Candle Color works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit. Link your LIFX account in your voice assistant's app for commands like "Alexa, set the chandelier to warm white" or "Hey Google, turn the sconces to candle mode." When setting up multiple Candle Color bulbs in a chandelier, group them in the LIFX app so they respond as a unit. HomeKit scenes can include your Candle Color bulbs in "Dinner Party" or "Movie Night" automations. LIFX also supports IFTTT for creative triggers like changing your chandelier colors based on the weather or time of day.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the Candle Color isn't found during pairing, check that your phone is on the 2.4GHz network. Reset the bulb by toggling the switch off and on five times at one-second intervals. If the multi-zone effects don't display properly, ensure you have the latest firmware by checking the LIFX app's device settings for available updates. The Candle Color produces less total brightness than larger LIFX bulbs due to its compact size, which is normal for candelabra-style bulbs. If a chandelier dimmer switch causes flickering, leave the dimmer at full power and control brightness through the LIFX app instead, as traditional dimmers are not compatible with smart LED bulbs.
