What You'll Need
- Lorex 2K Wire-Free Camera
- Base station (included with most kits)
- Smartphone with the Lorex app (iOS or Android)
- Ethernet cable for the base station
- Wi-Fi network
Step 1: Charge the Camera
Fully charge the battery using the included USB cable before mounting. This takes about 4-6 hours. The LED changes color when fully charged.
Step 2: Set Up the Base Station
Connect the base station to your router with the Ethernet cable and plug in its power adapter. Wait about 2 minutes for the lights to stabilize.
Step 3: Download the Lorex App
Install the app, create an account, and follow the prompts to add your base station by scanning its QR code.
Step 4: Pair the Camera
The camera may already be pre-paired from the factory -- check the app. If not, go to device settings, select "Add Camera," and press the sync button on both the base station and camera.
Step 5: Configure Settings
Do this before mounting while the camera is still within arm's reach:
- Motion Detection: Start at medium sensitivity and adjust over the first few days based on false alert frequency.
- Activity Zones: Draw zones to focus detection on your driveway or door. This dramatically reduces unwanted alerts.
- Recording Mode: Choose motion-triggered recording for best battery life. Continuous recording is not available on battery cameras.
Step 6: Mount the Camera
Install the magnetic mount 8-10 feet high for the best angle and snap the camera on. Use screws for the strongest hold. Keep within the base station's range -- about 450 feet line of sight, less through walls.
Storage
The base station records locally to a microSD card or built-in drive, so your footage stays on your property with no monthly fees. Unlike Ring or Arlo, you never need a subscription to access recordings. Optional Lorex Cloud is available for off-site backup.
Platform Integration
- Alexa: Enable the Lorex skill to view the feed on Echo Show. Say "Alexa, show me [camera name]."
- Google Home: Link your Lorex account to stream on Nest Hub displays and Chromecast devices.
- Home Assistant: Add the camera via the ONVIF integration or RTSP stream URL from the base station's network settings for full local control.
Troubleshooting
- Camera offline: Check the battery first -- a dead battery means silent disconnection. If charged, check distance to the base station. Thick walls and metal siding cut range.
- Base station not connecting: Verify the Ethernet cable at both ends. Try a different router port. The base station requires a wired connection.
- Battery draining fast: High motion sensitivity is the biggest drain. Lower it and use activity zones to reduce false triggers.
- Night vision washed out: IR LEDs bouncing off a white wall or window cause this. Angle the camera away from reflective surfaces.
- No motion alerts: Check notification settings in the Lorex app and your phone's OS settings. Verify detection is on and zones cover the right areas.
