How to Set Up Your Lutron Diva Smart Switch (Matter)

What's in the Box

Your Lutron Diva Smart Switch (Matter) package includes the Diva smart on/off switch, a Claro decorative wallplate, wire connectors, and installation instructions. The Diva Smart Switch provides simple on/off control for non-dimmable loads such as bathroom exhaust fans, garbage disposals, and fixtures with non-dimmable bulbs. It connects directly to your Wi-Fi network using the Matter smart home standard, eliminating the need for a Lutron bridge or hub.

Prerequisites

The Diva Smart Switch with Matter is a standalone device that communicates over Wi-Fi. Unlike Lutron Caseta products that use Clear Connect RF and require a Smart Bridge, this switch integrates directly with your existing Matter ecosystem.

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Turn off the circuit breaker controlling the switch you plan to replace. Verify the power is off using a non-contact voltage tester at the switch box.
2. Remove the existing switch faceplate and unscrew the switch from the electrical box. Pull it out and identify the line (hot), load, neutral, and ground wires.
3. Connect the Diva switch's green wire to the ground wire in the box. Attach the black wire to the line (hot) wire, the blue wire to the load wire, and the white wire to the neutral wire bundle.
4. Secure all connections with wire connectors and push the wires into the electrical box. Mount the switch using the provided screws.
5. Attach the Claro wallplate. The Diva Smart Switch features a wide paddle design for easy on/off operation.

App Pairing via Matter

The Diva Smart Switch includes a Matter QR code and numeric setup code on the device itself and on a card in the packaging. Open your smart home app of choice and select "Add Device" or "Add Accessory." Scan the Matter QR code with your phone's camera when prompted. Your Matter hub will discover the switch on the local network and complete the pairing process. The Matter protocol supports multi-admin functionality, which means you can pair this single switch to Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa simultaneously so that every household member can use their preferred platform for control.

Smart Home Integration Tips

Once paired, the switch is fully controllable through voice commands, app controls, and automations on any connected Matter platform. Create routines such as turning on the bathroom exhaust fan automatically when humidity rises (if you have a compatible humidity sensor) or scheduling the switch to turn off after 30 minutes to prevent a fan from running continuously. The physical paddle on the switch always works regardless of Wi-Fi or network status, so manual control is never compromised.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the switch does not appear during Matter setup, confirm your phone and Matter hub are on the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The Diva Smart Switch does not support 5GHz networks. If the switch has power (LED is on) but won't pair, try moving your phone closer to the switch during the QR code scan. For a factory reset, press and hold both the top and bottom of the paddle simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the LED flashes amber, then release and begin the pairing process again. If the connected load does not respond but the switch itself appears to function, double-check the load wire connection in the box.
