What's in the Box

Your Nanoleaf 4D Screen Mirror + Lightstrip Kit (65") package includes the Nanoleaf 4D camera, a lightstrip sized for up to a 65-inch TV, a controller, adhesive mounting clips for the lightstrip, a USB power cable, a camera mount with adhesive, and a quick start guide. The 4D system captures the colors displayed on your television screen in real time using the included camera and mirrors those colors onto the lightstrip mounted behind your TV, creating an immersive bias lighting experience that extends the visual display beyond the screen edges.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the 4D kit, ensure you have:

  • A television between 55 and 65 inches with sufficient space behind it for the lightstrip
  • A USB power source near the TV (the TV's own USB port or a separate USB adapter)
  • A flat surface or TV bezel to mount the 4D camera, positioned in front of the screen
  • The Nanoleaf app installed on your phone
  • A 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for the controller

The 4D camera must have a clear, unobstructed view of the entire TV screen to accurately capture colors. Plan the camera placement before mounting anything.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Clean the back of your TV with a dry cloth to ensure the adhesive mounting clips stick properly.
  2. Attach the lightstrip to the back of the TV using the included adhesive clips. Start at the bottom center of the TV and work your way around the perimeter in a clockwise direction. Keep the strip about two inches from the edge so the light diffuses evenly against the wall.
  3. Connect the lightstrip to the controller. Plug the USB power cable into the controller and connect it to a USB power source.
  4. Mount the 4D camera below or on top of your TV screen using the adhesive camera mount. The camera lens should face the TV screen directly. Nanoleaf recommends mounting it on the bezel at the bottom center for the most accurate color capture.
  5. Connect the camera to the controller using the included cable.
  6. Power on the system and open the Nanoleaf app. Tap "Add Device" and select "4D" from the product list.
  7. Follow the in-app instructions to connect the controller to your Wi-Fi network and calibrate the camera. The calibration process involves the camera identifying the edges of your TV screen so it knows which areas of the display correspond to which sections of the lightstrip.

App Pairing and Calibration

The calibration step is critical for accurate screen mirroring. The Nanoleaf app will display test patterns on your phone screen which you hold in front of the TV, or it will guide you through a camera alignment process. Once calibrated, the system maps zones of the TV screen to corresponding zones on the lightstrip. You can fine-tune the color accuracy, brightness, and saturation of the bias lighting in the app. The app also offers standalone lightstrip modes for when you want ambient lighting without screen mirroring.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The Nanoleaf 4D supports Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. Use voice commands to turn the lightstrip on or off and switch between screen mirror mode and static scenes. Create automations that turn on the 4D system when your TV powers on, or set it to display a warm ambient glow in the evening as a nightlight. The system also supports Nanoleaf's music sync feature when not in screen mirror mode, pulsing colors to the beat of audio in the room.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the screen mirror colors appear inaccurate or delayed, re-run the camera calibration in the Nanoleaf app. Ensure the camera lens is clean and has no obstructions. Ambient room lighting can interfere with the camera's color detection, so dim overhead lights for the best screen mirror accuracy. If the lightstrip sections are not mapping correctly to the screen edges, verify the strip is mounted evenly around the TV perimeter and that no sections are twisted or bunched. If the controller does not connect to Wi-Fi, confirm you are using a 2.4GHz network and that the signal is strong at the TV location.
