What You'll Need
- Nanoleaf Essentials Matter Recessed Downlight
- Existing recessed can (4" or 6" depending on model)
- Thread border router
- Matter-compatible controller
- Smartphone with controller app
- Screwdriver (for some installations)
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off power: Switch off circuit breaker for the recessed light.
- Remove existing bulb/trim: Take out the current bulb or retrofit LED.
- Connect the downlight: Screw the Nanoleaf downlight into the Edison socket adapter, or connect to direct wire if applicable.
- Insert into can: Push the spring clips and insert the downlight into the recessed can.
- Restore power: Turn the breaker back on. The downlight will illuminate.
- Reset for pairing: Turn off/on 3 times quickly if needed.
- Open Matter controller: Apple Home, Google Home, etc.
- Scan Matter code: Find code on packaging and scan.
- Complete setup: Assign room and test controls.

Troubleshooting
- Doesn't fit can: Verify can size matches downlight size (4" or 6"). Check model specifications.
- Not pairing: Reset with 3 on/off cycles. Ensure Thread border router is online.
- Spring clips not holding: Ensure clips are fully extended. Can housing must be standard size.
- Flickering: Check that physical dimmer isn't installed on circuit. Smart control only.
- Color inconsistent between units: Update firmware. Different production batches may vary slightly.
