What's in the Box

Your Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagons (9-Pack) package includes nine hexagonal light panels, a controller panel, nine mounting connectors (linkers), a power supply unit with cable, adhesive mounting tape strips, and a quick start guide. Each hexagonal panel measures approximately 9 inches across and features edge-to-edge LED illumination with full RGBWW color support. The Shapes line uses a snap-together connector system that allows panels to be linked in virtually any layout pattern.

Prerequisites

Before mounting your Hexagons, make sure you have:

  • A flat, smooth wall surface large enough for your desired layout (plan for approximately 3-4 square feet for a 9-panel arrangement)
  • A nearby power outlet for the included power supply
  • The Nanoleaf app installed on your iOS or Android device
  • A 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (Shapes panels connect via Wi-Fi)
  • A clean, dust-free wall surface for the adhesive mounting tape

The Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagons connect over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi through the controller panel. The controller must be included as part of your layout, as it houses the Wi-Fi radio and coordinates all connected panels.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plan your layout before touching the wall. Use the Nanoleaf app's "Layout Assistant" or arrange the hexagons on a flat floor surface to visualize the design. Consider the power supply cable location so it reaches a nearby outlet without stretching across visible areas.
  2. Connect the hexagonal panels together using the snap-on linker connectors. Each hexagon has connection points on all six edges. Press linkers into the edge ports of adjacent panels until they click into place. The controller panel must be included in the connected chain.
  3. Peel the adhesive backing from the mounting tape and press a strip firmly onto the back of each panel.
  4. Starting with the controller panel, press the first hexagon firmly against the wall for at least 30 seconds. Use a level or the Nanoleaf app's camera feature to ensure the panel is straight.
  5. Continue mounting each panel in sequence, pressing firmly and aligning carefully with the adjacent panels. The linker connectors help maintain proper spacing and alignment between panels.
  6. Connect the power supply cable to the controller panel and plug it into the wall outlet. All panels should illuminate.
  7. Open the Nanoleaf app, tap "Add Device," and select "Shapes." Follow the prompts to connect the panels to your Wi-Fi network.

App Pairing and Customization

Once connected, the Nanoleaf app detects your physical layout and creates a virtual map of the panel arrangement. This allows you to set different colors on individual panels or run dynamic scenes that animate across the entire display. Browse the Nanoleaf Scene Store for thousands of community-created scenes, or design your own using the color palette editor. The Shapes also feature touch control: tap or swipe across the panels to trigger color changes, thanks to the built-in capacitive touch sensors on each panel.

Smart Home Integration Tips

Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagons work with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTTT. Add them to your smart home platform for voice control and automation. Create routines that set a specific scene when you say "Good morning" or that dim the panels to a warm glow at bedtime. The Shapes also support Nanoleaf's Screen Mirror feature through the desktop app, syncing panel colors with your computer screen for immersive gaming or movie watching. For music sync, enable the rhythm feature, which uses the controller's built-in microphone to react to ambient sound.

Quick Troubleshooting

If one or more panels do not illuminate, check the linker connections between the dark panel and its neighbors. Remove and reseat the linker connector firmly. If the entire array does not turn on, verify the power supply connection at the controller. If the panels do not connect to Wi-Fi, make sure you are entering the 2.4GHz network credentials, as the Shapes do not support 5GHz. If panels fall off the wall, the wall surface may have dust, texture, or paint incompatible with the adhesive. Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and apply fresh mounting tape. For painted walls, allow new paint to cure for at least four weeks before mounting to ensure strong adhesion.
