What You Will Need

  • Ring Alarm Outdoor Siren
  • Ring Alarm Base Station (already set up and online)
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Mounting screws and anchors (included)
  • A sheltered outdoor location near a power outlet or within Z-Wave range of the base station

Step 1: Choose a Mounting Location

Select a spot on the exterior of your home where the siren will be clearly audible. Ideal locations include above a garage door, near the front entrance, or along a side wall. The siren is weather-resistant but should be placed under an eave or overhang for additional protection.

Make sure the location is within Z-Wave range of your Ring Alarm Base Station (up to 250 feet in open air, reduced by walls and building materials). If you are unsure about range, temporarily hold the siren at the intended location and check connectivity before permanently mounting it.

Step 2: Pair the Siren with Your Base Station

  1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  2. Select Security Devices, then choose Outdoor Siren.
  3. Remove the back cover of the siren and pull the battery tab to activate the pre-installed batteries.
  4. Press the pairing button on the siren when prompted by the app.
  5. Wait for the Base Station to discover the siren over Z-Wave. This may take up to 60 seconds.
  6. Name the device and assign it to a location.

Step 3: Mount the Siren

  1. Hold the mounting bracket against the wall at your chosen location. Mark the screw hole positions with a pencil.
  2. If mounting on masonry or brick, drill pilot holes and insert the included wall anchors. For wood siding, you can screw directly into the surface.
  3. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall using the included screws.
  4. Attach the siren to the mounting bracket and ensure it clicks firmly into place.

Step 4: Test the Siren

  1. In the Ring app, go to Devices and select your Outdoor Siren.
  2. Tap Test Siren to trigger a brief test tone. The siren will emit a short burst at reduced volume.
  3. Verify you can hear the siren clearly from the street and from key areas around your property.
  4. Check the device status to ensure the signal strength is adequate.

Step 5: Configure Siren Settings

In the Ring app, you can adjust several siren behaviors:

  • Siren Volume — Choose between standard and high volume. The outdoor siren reaches up to 110 dB.
  • LED Strobe — Enable or disable the red LED strobe that flashes during an alarm event.
  • Alarm Modes — Choose whether the siren activates in Home mode, Away mode, or both.
  • Entry/Exit Tones — Optionally play tones during entry and exit delays.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Mount the siren at least 8 to 10 feet above ground level to prevent tampering and improve sound projection.
  • The siren includes a built-in tamper alarm. If someone attempts to remove the device, it will trigger an alert in the Ring app.
  • Battery life is approximately one year under normal use. Replace the batteries promptly when the app notifies you of a low battery condition.
  • If you have a Ring Alarm Range Extender, place it between the base station and the outdoor siren to strengthen the signal.
