What You Will Need

  • Ring Spotlight Cam Plus (Battery)
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network
  • Charged battery pack (charge with the included USB-C cable before installation)
  • Phillips screwdriver or drill
  • Mounting bracket and screws (included)
  • Ladder (if mounting at elevated height)

Step 1: Charge the Battery

Fully charge the included rechargeable battery pack before installation. Connect the USB-C cable to the battery and plug it into a USB power adapter. The LED indicator on the battery turns solid green when fully charged, which takes approximately five to six hours.

Step 2: Insert the Battery

  1. Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the Spotlight Cam by pressing the release tab.
  2. Slide the charged battery into the compartment until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the battery door.

Step 3: Set Up in the Ring App

  1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  2. Select Cameras, then choose Spotlight Cam Plus.
  3. Scan the QR code on the bottom of the camera or on the Quick Start Guide.
  4. Press the orange setup button when prompted. The camera's light will spin blue.
  5. Connect to the camera's temporary WiFi network, then select your 2.4 GHz home WiFi network and enter your password.
  6. Wait for the connection to complete. Name the camera and assign it to a location.

Step 4: Mount the Camera

  1. Choose an outdoor location with a clear view of the area you want to monitor. Common spots include above a garage, near a back door, or along a fence line.
  2. Mount the camera at a height of seven to nine feet for optimal motion detection and camera coverage.
  3. Hold the mounting bracket against the wall and mark the screw holes.
  4. Drill pilot holes and insert wall anchors if mounting on masonry or brick.
  5. Secure the bracket with the included screws.
  6. Attach the camera to the bracket and adjust the angle so the camera and spotlight are aimed at the desired area.

Step 5: Configure Settings

  • Motion Zones — Define specific areas within the camera's view to monitor. Exclude areas with frequent non-relevant movement like tree branches or busy roads.
  • Motion Sensitivity — Adjust the slider for the right balance between detecting important events and conserving battery.
  • Spotlight Settings — Configure the built-in LED spotlights to turn on automatically when motion is detected, or control them manually through the app.
  • Siren — The camera includes a built-in 110 dB siren that you can trigger remotely from the app.
  • Two-Way Talk — Enable the microphone and speaker for communicating with visitors or deterring intruders.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Battery life typically lasts six to twelve months depending on motion frequency and spotlight usage.
  • For continuous power, add a Ring Solar Panel to keep the battery charged with sunlight.
  • Reducing motion sensitivity and lowering spotlight brightness in the app extends battery life significantly.
  • The camera records 1080p HD video with color night vision when the spotlight is activated.
  • A Ring Protect subscription is required to save video recordings and access advanced features like person detection.
  • Link the Spotlight Cam to other Ring devices for coordinated security. For example, link it to a Ring doorbell so the spotlight turns on when someone approaches your front door.
