How to Set Up Your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (Wired)

What You Will Need

• Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (Wired)
• Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
• Existing outdoor electrical junction box with 120V wiring (or a weatherproof outdoor outlet)
• A 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network
• Phillips screwdriver
• Drill
• Wire nuts (included, if hardwiring)
• Non-contact voltage tester (recommended)
• Ladder (for elevated installations)

Important Safety Warning

If you are hardwiring this camera to a junction box, you will be working with 120V household wiring. Turn off the power at the circuit breaker and verify the wires are de-energized with a voltage tester before handling any wiring. Hire a licensed electrician if you are not comfortable with electrical work. Alternatively, this camera can be powered via the included plug-in adapter if an outdoor outlet is available.

Step 1: Choose Your Power Option

The Spotlight Cam Pro (Wired) offers two power options:

• Hardwired — Connect directly to an existing outdoor junction box, replacing a previous light fixture. This provides the cleanest installation with no visible cables.
• Plug-in — Use the included outdoor-rated power adapter and plug it into a weatherproof outdoor outlet.

Step 2: Install the Camera

For hardwired installation:

1. Turn off the circuit breaker controlling the junction box.
2. Remove the existing light fixture and disconnect the wires.
3. Mount the camera's bracket to the junction box.
4. Connect wires: black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), green to green or bare copper (ground). Secure with wire nuts.
5. Attach the camera to the bracket and tighten the securing screws.
6. Turn the power back on at the breaker.

For plug-in installation:

1. Mount the camera bracket to the wall using the included screws and anchors.
2. Attach the camera to the bracket.
3. Connect the power adapter and plug it into the outdoor outlet.

Step 3: Set Up in the Ring App

1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
2. Select Cameras, then choose Spotlight Cam Pro.
3. Scan the QR code and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Connect the camera to your WiFi network. The Pro model supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
5. Name the camera and assign it to a location.

Step 4: Configure Advanced Features

The Spotlight Cam Pro includes advanced detection capabilities:

• 3D Motion Detection — Uses built-in radar to precisely detect motion distance and direction. Set detailed motion zones in the app.
• Bird's Eye View — Provides an overhead map showing the path of motion across your property (requires Ring Protect subscription).
• Color Pre-Roll — Records a few seconds of video before the motion event, so you see what triggered the alert.
• Spotlight Controls — Adjust brightness and set schedules for the built-in LED spotlights.
• Two-Way Talk with Audio+ — Enhanced noise cancellation for clearer conversations through the app.

Tips for Best Performance

• Mount the camera at seven to nine feet above ground for optimal coverage.
• Since the camera is wired, it has continuous power with no battery to charge, enabling features like Color Pre-Roll that battery cameras cannot support.
• A Ring Protect subscription unlocks video recording, Bird's Eye View, person/package detection, and 180-day video history (with Protect Plus).
• The built-in 110 dB siren can be triggered manually or linked to your Ring Alarm system for automated activation.
