What You Will Need

  • Ring Stick Up Cam Plug-In
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • A 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network
  • A nearby power outlet (indoor or outdoor GFCI outlet)
  • USB-C power cable and adapter (included)
  • Mounting bracket and screws (included, optional for wall mounting)

Step 1: Choose a Location

The Ring Stick Up Cam Plug-In can be used indoors or outdoors as long as it is plugged into a power outlet. Choose a location with a clear view of the area you want to monitor. Common placements include:

  • A porch or patio near an outdoor GFCI outlet
  • A living room, hallway, or nursery near an indoor outlet
  • A garage or workshop

Since the camera requires constant power, ensure the outlet is within reach of the included power cable. For outdoor use, the outlet must be a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet.

Step 2: Plug In the Camera

  1. Connect the included USB-C power cable to the port on the back of the camera.
  2. Plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  3. The camera's status light will begin flashing, indicating it is powered on and ready for setup.

Step 3: Set Up in the Ring App

  1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  2. Select Cameras, then choose Stick Up Cam.
  3. Scan the QR code on the bottom of the camera or in the Quick Start Guide.
  4. Press the orange setup button on the camera when prompted. The status light will spin blue.
  5. Connect to the camera's temporary WiFi network when your phone prompts you.
  6. Select your home WiFi network and enter the password. The Plug-In version supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
  7. Wait for the connection to complete, then name the camera and assign it to a location.

Step 4: Position or Mount the Camera

You have several placement options:

  • Flat surface — Place the camera on a shelf, table, or counter using the built-in base.
  • Wall mount — Use the included bracket and screws to mount the camera to a wall.
  • Ceiling mount — Attach the bracket to a ceiling for a downward-facing view.

For outdoor use, mount the camera at a height of seven to nine feet. For indoor use, three to five feet works well for most rooms.

Step 5: Configure Motion Settings

  1. In the Ring app, select your Stick Up Cam and tap Motion Settings.
  2. Define Motion Zones to focus on specific areas and avoid false triggers from passing traffic or moving trees.
  3. Adjust the Motion Sensitivity slider to suit your environment.
  4. Set up Motion Schedules if you want to disable alerts during certain times.
  5. Configure Motion Alerts and notification preferences.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Since the camera is always plugged in, you get continuous power with no need to recharge batteries. This also enables more frequent motion checks and faster alerts.
  • The camera records in 1080p HD with color night vision and two-way audio.
  • A Ring Protect subscription is required to save and review video recordings. Without a subscription, you can only view live video.
  • Route the power cable neatly along walls and under eaves using cable clips to prevent tripping hazards and maintain a clean appearance.
  • For outdoor installations, ensure all cable connections are protected from rain and direct water exposure.
