What's in the Box

The Tapo C200 Pan/Tilt Camera package includes the camera unit, a power adapter with micro-USB cable, a mounting template, screws and anchors for wall or ceiling mounting, and a quick start guide. The C200 features 360-degree horizontal pan and 114-degree vertical tilt, giving you full room coverage from a single camera. It supports 1080p Full HD video, night vision, two-way audio, and motion detection. No hub is required — it connects directly to WiFi.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the C200, make sure you have:

  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network (the C200 does not support 5 GHz)
  • A smartphone with the Tapo app installed (iOS or Android)
  • A TP-Link ID registered in the Tapo app
  • A power outlet within reach of the camera location
  • Optional: a microSD card (up to 256 GB) for local video storage

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Place the C200 on a flat surface like a shelf, desk, or table, or mount it on a wall or ceiling using the included hardware. For ceiling mounting, the camera can be inverted and the image flipped in the app settings.
  2. If using a microSD card, insert it into the slot on the side of the camera before plugging in. The card slot accepts microSD cards up to 256 GB for continuous or event-based recording.
  3. Connect the power adapter to the camera and plug it into a wall outlet. Wait about 30 seconds for the camera to boot up. The LED indicator will blink green and red when it is ready for pairing.
  4. Open the Tapo app, tap the "+" icon, and select "Smart Cameras." Choose the Tapo C200 from the list.
  5. The app will guide you through connecting to the camera. On some devices, you may need to manually join the camera's temporary WiFi hotspot. Follow the prompts to select your home WiFi network and enter the password.
  6. Once connected, name the camera and assign it to a room. Set a privacy password for the camera feed when prompted for security.

App Pairing and Configuration

After pairing, the Tapo app gives you live viewing with pan and tilt controls. Swipe on the live feed to move the camera, or use the directional arrows. Set up to four preset positions — such as "Door," "Window," "Crib," and "Pet Area" — that the camera can snap to with one tap. Enable motion detection and configure activity zones to focus alerts on specific areas. The C200 supports person detection for smarter notifications. Set a privacy schedule to automatically disable the camera during certain hours, or use the physical privacy mode button on the camera. The microSD card recording can be set to continuous 24/7 or event-only mode to conserve storage space.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The C200 works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Link your TP-Link account through the Alexa or Google Home app to view live feeds on smart displays using commands like "Alexa, show me the living room" or "Hey Google, stream the baby camera." The camera's two-way audio lets you speak through compatible smart displays as well. Combine the C200 with other Tapo devices like smart plugs to create automations — for example, when the camera detects motion at night, automatically turn on a Tapo smart plug powering a lamp.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the camera LED does not blink green and red after powering on, press and hold the reset button on the bottom of the camera for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode. If the camera connects but video feed is laggy or choppy, check your WiFi signal strength at the camera location and move the camera closer to your router or add a WiFi extender. If the microSD card is not recognized, format it in the Tapo app under camera settings rather than on a computer, as the camera requires a specific file system format. If pan and tilt movements are jerky or the camera makes grinding noises, ensure nothing is obstructing the camera head's rotation path.
