What's in the Box

The Tapo C320WS Outdoor Camera package includes the camera unit, a power adapter with a long outdoor-rated cable (approximately 10 feet), a mounting bracket with screws and wall anchors, a drill template sticker, a waterproof cable grommet, and a quick start guide. The C320WS is IP66 rated for dust and water resistance and features 2K QHD resolution, full-color night vision with a built-in spotlight, two-way audio, and a siren. No hub is needed — it connects directly to your WiFi.

Prerequisites

Before installing the C320WS, make sure you have:

  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network with good signal at the mounting location (5 GHz is not supported)
  • A smartphone with the Tapo app installed (iOS or Android)
  • A TP-Link ID registered within the Tapo app
  • A power outlet within reach of the camera cable, or an outdoor-rated extension cord
  • A drill with bits appropriate for your mounting surface (wood, stucco, brick, or siding)
  • Optional: a microSD card (up to 512 GB) for local recording

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Choose a mounting location that covers the area you want to monitor — above a garage, under an eave, or on an exterior wall. Aim for a height of 8 to 10 feet for the best field of view and to keep the camera out of easy reach.
  2. If using local storage, insert a microSD card into the camera's card slot before mounting. The slot is accessible on the side of the camera under a weatherproof cover.
  3. Use the included drill template sticker to mark the screw hole positions on your mounting surface. Drill the holes and insert the wall anchors if mounting on masonry or concrete.
  4. Route the power cable through the mounting bracket and use the waterproof grommet to protect the cable entry point from moisture. Attach the bracket to the wall with the included screws.
  5. Connect the camera to the power adapter and plug it in. The camera will boot up in about 30 seconds, and the LED will blink green and red to indicate it is ready for pairing.
  6. Open the Tapo app, tap "+," and select "Smart Cameras." Choose the Tapo C320WS and follow the prompts to connect it to your WiFi network.

App Pairing and Configuration

After connecting, configure the C320WS through the Tapo app. Enable motion detection and set activity zones to focus on driveways, walkways, or entry points while ignoring areas like public sidewalks or busy roads. Turn on person detection to receive smarter alerts that distinguish people from animals or passing vehicles. The spotlight can be set to activate automatically when motion is detected at night, providing full-color night vision footage. You can also trigger the built-in siren manually or automatically as a deterrent. Set the recording mode to continuous or event-triggered, and configure notification schedules so you are not disturbed during quiet hours.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The C320WS works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Link your TP-Link account and use commands like "Alexa, show me the driveway" on an Echo Show or "Hey Google, stream the backyard camera" on a Nest Hub. Set up Alexa routines that turn on smart lights when the camera detects motion after dark. The camera's two-way audio also works through compatible smart displays, allowing you to speak to visitors or delivery drivers remotely. For more comprehensive coverage, pair the C320WS with a Tapo H200 hub and Tapo sensors for a full smart security system.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the camera does not enter pairing mode, hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the LED blinks green and red. If WiFi connection fails, check that the outdoor mounting location has adequate 2.4 GHz signal — exterior walls and distance can significantly weaken WiFi. A mesh WiFi node or outdoor access point near the camera can help. If the spotlight does not activate at night, verify that the spotlight setting is enabled in the camera's detection settings. If the microSD card is not detected, remove it and reinsert it, or format it through the Tapo app. If the image appears washed out during the day with the spotlight on, disable the spotlight for daytime use — it is designed for night vision enhancement only.
