What's in the Box
The TP-Link Kasa Smart Bulb KL110 Dimmable White comes with one smart LED bulb and a quick start guide. The KL110 is an A19-style bulb with an E26 base that fits standard light sockets across North America. It produces a warm white light at 2700K and is dimmable from 1 to 100 percent through the app or voice commands. No hub or bridge is required because the bulb connects directly to your WiFi network.
Prerequisites
Make sure the following are ready before you begin:
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network (the KL110 does not work on 5 GHz bands)
- A smartphone with the Kasa Smart app installed (available for iOS and Android)
- A TP-Link account, which can be created for free in the Kasa app
- A lamp or fixture with the power switch left in the ON position
Step-by-Step Setup
- Screw the KL110 into a standard E26 light socket and turn the power switch on. The bulb will glow dimly or blink briefly to indicate it is in pairing mode and ready for setup.
- Open the Kasa Smart app and tap the "+" icon to add a new device. Navigate to "Smart Bulbs" and select the KL110 Dimmable White from the list.
- Ensure your phone is connected to your home 2.4 GHz WiFi network. If your router uses a combined band name, move your phone farther from the router to encourage it to connect on 2.4 GHz during the setup process.
- The app will detect the bulb's temporary WiFi signal and walk you through connecting it. Select your home network and enter your WiFi password when prompted.
- After the bulb connects, which usually takes 15 to 30 seconds, name it something descriptive like "Living Room Lamp" and assign it to a room in the app.
App Pairing and Configuration
Once connected, the Kasa app provides full control over the KL110's brightness. Use the slider to dim the light from a soft glow for movie nights to full brightness for reading or tasks. Set up daily or weekly schedules so the bulb turns on automatically at sunset and off at your preferred bedtime. The "Gradual On" and "Gradual Off" features allow the light to slowly brighten in the morning or fade at night, simulating a sunrise and sunset effect. You can also enable "Away Mode" to randomly toggle the bulb on and off while you are away from home, giving the appearance that someone is there.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The KL110 works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Microsoft Cortana without any additional hardware. To connect with Alexa, open the Alexa app, search for the "Kasa Smart" skill, and link your TP-Link account. For Google Home, add the Kasa service from the "Works with Google" section. Voice commands like "Alexa, dim the living room lamp to 40 percent" or "Hey Google, turn off the reading light" make it easy to control the bulb hands-free. Group multiple KL110 bulbs by room so a single command adjusts them all simultaneously. The bulb also supports IFTTT for advanced automations, such as turning on the light when your phone connects to your home WiFi network.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the KL110 does not enter pairing mode or is not detected by the app, reset it by toggling the power switch off and on three times with about one second between each toggle. The bulb will blink several times to confirm the reset. After resetting, restart the setup process in the Kasa app. If the bulb connects successfully but later drops offline, make sure it is within good WiFi range and that your router firmware is up to date. Avoid placing the bulb inside fully enclosed metal fixtures, as this can weaken the WiFi signal and cause connectivity problems.
