What You'll Need
- Trane XL824 thermostat
- Compatible Trane HVAC system
- Screwdriver
- Smartphone with Nexia or Trane Home app
- Wi-Fi network
Step 1: Turn Off Power
Turn off power to your HVAC system at the circuit breaker. Wait for the system to fully power down.
Step 2: Remove Old Thermostat
Remove your existing thermostat. Document or photograph the wiring connections before disconnecting.
Step 3: Mount the Backplate
Mount the XL824 backplate on the wall. Route wires through the opening and level the plate before securing.
Step 4: Connect Wiring
Connect the thermostat wires to the appropriate terminals on the backplate following the wiring diagram.
Step 5: Attach Thermostat
Snap the thermostat display onto the backplate. Restore power at the breaker.
Step 6: Initial Configuration
Follow the on-screen setup wizard to configure your HVAC system type, date, time, and preferences.
Step 7: Connect to Wi-Fi
Navigate to network settings and connect to your Wi-Fi network. Download the Nexia or Trane Home app to control remotely.
