What You'll Need
- Wyze Cam OG
- Wyze app (iOS or Android)
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- USB-C power cable and adapter (included)
- microSD card (optional, for local storage)
Step-by-Step Setup
- Connect power using the included USB-C cable. Note this is USB-C, not the micro-USB from older Wyze cameras.
- Wait for the voice prompt. The camera will say "Ready to connect" within about 30 seconds. The status light will flash yellow.
- Open the Wyze app and sign in or create a free account.
- Add the camera: Tap "+", then Add Device, select Cameras and Wyze Cam OG.
- Scan the QR code. Hold your phone about 6 inches from the lens and wait for the confirmation chime.
- Connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. The Cam OG only supports 2.4GHz, so do not select a 5GHz network.
- Position the camera. The magnetic base sticks to any metal surface. For non-metal surfaces, use the included mounting plate and screws.
Key Features to Configure
- Built-in Spotlight: Toggle manually from live view or set it to activate on motion detection. Not as bright as a floodlight, but enough to light up a porch.
- Color Night Vision: The spotlight enables color footage at night instead of the usual black-and-white infrared image.
- Detection Settings: Configure motion and sound sensitivity. Set up a detection zone to reduce false notifications.
- Local Recording: Insert a microSD card (up to 256GB) for continuous or event-only recording without a subscription.
- RTSP Streaming: The Cam OG supports RTSP natively -- enable it under Advanced Settings for a direct video stream URL.
Platform Integration
- Alexa: Enable the Wyze skill, then say "Alexa, show me [camera name]" on Echo Show or Fire TV.
- Google Home: Link your Wyze account to view the feed on Nest Hub displays and Chromecast devices.
- Home Assistant: Use the native RTSP stream URL with Home Assistant, Blue Iris, or any other NVR software. No special firmware needed.
Troubleshooting
- Spotlight not turning on: Check that it is enabled in settings. In auto mode, it only activates on motion in low-light conditions.
- No audio during two-way talk: Make sure the Wyze app has microphone permissions on your phone (iOS: Settings > Wyze > Microphone).
- Wi-Fi connection fails: Only 2.4GHz is supported. If your router combines bands, try moving closer to the router during setup or temporarily disable 5GHz.
- Magnetic base not holding: Clean the surface with alcohol first. For outdoor installations, use the screw mount instead.
- Video buffering: Check signal strength in the Wyze app under Device Info. Below two bars means you need a Wi-Fi extender.
- Factory reset: Hold the setup button for 10 seconds until the light flashes and you hear "Ready to connect."
