The Aqara Smart Lock U200 is a premium smart deadbolt that supports Matter for direct integration with Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and Amazon Alexa. It features fingerprint recognition, NFC key cards, passcodes, and a physical key backup. With Matter support, the U200 connects to your smart home ecosystem without requiring a separate Aqara Hub for basic operation.
What You Will Need
- Aqara Smart Lock U200
- Aqara Home app installed on your smartphone (iOS or Android)
- Phillips head and flathead screwdrivers
- Measuring tape
- 4 AA batteries (included)
- A Matter-compatible smart home hub for remote access (Apple HomePod/Apple TV, Google Nest Hub, Samsung SmartThings hub, or Amazon Echo)
Checking Door Compatibility
Before installation, confirm your door meets these specifications:
- Door thickness: 35 mm to 58 mm (1-3/8" to 2-1/4")
- Backset: 60 mm (2-3/8") or 70 mm (2-3/4") — adjustable
- Bore hole diameter: 54 mm (2-1/8")
- The U200 replaces a standard single-cylinder deadbolt.
Removing the Existing Deadbolt
- Open the door fully so you can access both sides.
- Remove the screws from the interior side of the existing deadbolt.
- Separate the interior and exterior assemblies and remove them from the door.
- Slide the old latch bolt out from the edge of the door.
- Clean any debris from the bore hole and edge cutout.
Installing the U200
- Insert the new latch bolt into the edge of the door with the beveled side facing the door frame. Secure it with the included screws.
- Adjust the backset to match your door's measurement (60 mm or 70 mm).
- From the exterior side, feed the keypad assembly cable through the bore hole.
- On the interior side, connect the cable to the interior assembly.
- Align the interior mounting plate and secure it with the through-bolts that connect to the exterior assembly. Tighten evenly and avoid over-torquing.
- Attach the interior cover over the mounting plate.
- Install the 4 AA batteries in the interior battery compartment.
- Test the thumb-turn and keypad to ensure the deadbolt extends and retracts smoothly before completing the app setup.
Setting Up in the Aqara Home App
- Open the Aqara Home app and tap the + icon.
- Select Smart Lock U200 from the device list.
- Follow the Bluetooth pairing prompts. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and you are standing near the lock.
- Create an admin passcode during setup. This is the master code for managing the lock.
- Assign the lock to your home and name it.
Connecting via Matter
After initial setup in the Aqara Home app, connect the lock to your smart home platform via Matter:
- In the lock settings within the Aqara Home app, navigate to Matter or Third-Party Platforms.
- Select the platform you want to connect to and follow the prompts.
- A Matter pairing code or QR code will be displayed.
- Open the target platform's app and scan the code to add the lock.
- Once added, you can lock and unlock the door from your platform's app and use voice commands.
Registering Access Methods
In the lock settings within the Aqara Home app, go to Access Management to set up unlock methods:
- Fingerprints — Register each finger by touching the sensor 10 to 15 times from slightly different angles until the app confirms successful enrollment.
- Passcodes — Create permanent codes for family members and temporary codes with expiration dates for guests, cleaners, or contractors.
- NFC cards — Hold an NFC key card against the keypad when prompted to register it.
- Physical key — The U200 includes a traditional keyhole as a backup. Keep the key in a secure location outside the home.
Configuring Lock Features
- Auto-lock — Enable automatic locking after a set time period (for example, 30 seconds after the door closes).
- One-touch locking — Lock the door by touching the keypad without entering a code.
- Privacy mode — Temporarily disable all external unlock methods for maximum security.
- Notifications — Receive alerts when someone unlocks the door, when the battery is low, or when a failed attempt is detected.
Remote Access
For remote locking and unlocking when you are away from home, the U200 requires a connection through your Matter-compatible hub (such as an Apple TV, HomePod, or Google Nest Hub). The hub bridges the lock's Bluetooth connection to the internet, enabling remote control through your platform's app.
Tips
- The 4 AA batteries typically last 12 to 18 months. The lock will alert you through the app and with beeps at the keypad when battery levels are low.
- If the batteries die completely, use the USB-C emergency power port on the exterior keypad to temporarily power the lock and unlock the door.
- Test all registered fingerprints and passcodes after installation to confirm they work reliably.
- Register fingerprints from multiple angles, including dry and slightly moist fingers, for better recognition in different conditions.
- The U200 logs all lock and unlock events, which you can review in the Aqara Home app for a complete access history.
