What You Will Need

  • Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera
  • Existing outdoor junction box with wiring (110-240 VAC)
  • Smartphone with the Arlo app installed
  • Arlo SmartHub or compatible base station
  • 2.4 GHz WiFi network
  • Screwdriver (Phillips head)
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Wire nuts (included)
  • Ladder (for elevated mounting)

Step 1: Turn Off Power

Go to your home's electrical panel and turn off the breaker that controls the circuit where you plan to install the floodlight camera. Use a voltage tester on the wires at the junction box to confirm the power is completely off before proceeding. Never work with live electrical wiring.

Step 2: Remove the Existing Floodlight or Fixture

  1. Remove the screws holding your current outdoor light fixture to the junction box.
  2. Disconnect the wire nuts connecting the fixture wires to your home wiring.
  3. Set the old fixture aside and ensure the junction box is clean and in good condition.

Step 3: Connect the Wiring

  1. Thread the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight wires through the mounting plate and into the junction box.
  2. Connect the black wire (hot) from the floodlight to the black wire from your home using a wire nut.
  3. Connect the white wire (neutral) from the floodlight to the white wire from your home.
  4. Connect the green or bare copper wire (ground) to the ground wire or grounding screw in the junction box.
  5. Tuck the wires neatly into the junction box.

Step 4: Mount the Floodlight Camera

  1. Align the mounting plate with the junction box and secure it with the provided screws.
  2. Attach the floodlight camera body to the mounting plate. It should snap or screw into place securely.
  3. Adjust the angle of the camera and floodlight panels to cover the desired area. The camera offers a 160-degree field of view.

Step 5: Restore Power and Set Up the SmartHub

Turn the breaker back on. The floodlight LEDs should briefly illuminate to confirm power is flowing. If you have not already set up your Arlo SmartHub, connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable and plug it into power. Wait until its LED turns solid green before proceeding.

Step 6: Add the Camera in the Arlo App

  1. Open the Arlo app and tap Add New Device.
  2. Select Cameras and choose Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera.
  3. Scan the QR code on the camera body.
  4. The app will pair the camera with your SmartHub. Follow the prompts to connect it to your WiFi network.
  5. Wait for the LED to turn solid blue, confirming the connection is complete.

Step 7: Configure Floodlight and Detection Settings

In the Arlo app, navigate to the camera settings to adjust the floodlight behavior. You can set the floodlight to turn on when motion is detected, stay on for a set duration, or follow a schedule. Adjust the brightness level of the 2000-lumen LEDs to suit your environment. Configure motion sensitivity, activity zones, and enable smart alerts for people, vehicles, or animals if you have an Arlo Secure subscription.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Mount the camera at a height of eight to ten feet for optimal motion detection and floodlight coverage.
  • Angle the floodlight panels separately from the camera to illuminate a wider area while keeping the camera focused on your primary monitoring zone.
  • Use the two-way audio and built-in siren to deter intruders directly from the Arlo app.
  • If the camera is far from your router, consider placing the SmartHub closer to the installation point or adding a WiFi extender.
