The August View Doorbell Camera + Smart Lock Bundle includes two devices: the August View doorbell camera and the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock. For the doorbell, you will find the camera unit, a wedge mount, a flat mount, wiring hardware, and a micro USB charging cable. For the smart lock, the package contains the lock unit, a mounting plate, a DoorSense magnet, tailpiece adapters, a wing bracket adapter, AA batteries, and adhesive strips. Verify that all components are present before starting installation.

Prerequisites

For the doorbell camera, you need existing doorbell wiring (16–24V AC) or you can use the built-in rechargeable battery for a wireless setup. For the smart lock, you need a compatible single-cylinder deadbolt. Both devices require the August app (iOS or Android) and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Have a Phillips-head screwdriver and a flat-head screwdriver available. If wiring the doorbell, turn off the breaker powering your existing doorbell transformer before beginning.

Step-by-Step Smart Lock Installation

1. Remove the interior thumbturn assembly from your existing deadbolt, keeping the exterior key cylinder in place.
2. Mount the August mounting plate using the existing screw holes. Use the wing bracket adapter if the holes don't align.
3. Select the correct tailpiece adapter, slide it onto the deadbolt tailpiece, and place the lock body onto the mounting plate until it clicks secure.
4. Install the DoorSense magnet on the door frame, level with the lock unit.
5. Pull the battery tab to power on the lock and prepare it for app pairing.

Step-by-Step Doorbell Camera Installation

1. If using wired installation, turn off the breaker for your existing doorbell. Remove the old doorbell unit and note the two wires.
2. Attach the August View mounting bracket to the wall using the included screws. Thread the doorbell wires through the bracket if wiring.
3. Connect the low-voltage doorbell wires to the terminals on the back of the August View camera.
4. Snap the August View camera onto the mounting bracket. It should click firmly into place.
5. Restore power at the breaker. The camera's LED ring will illuminate, indicating it is receiving power and ready for setup.
6. For battery-only installation, skip the wiring steps, fully charge the camera via the micro USB cable, and mount the bracket in your desired location.

App Pairing for Both Devices

Open the August app and set up each device individually. Start with the smart lock — tap "Set Up a Device," select the Wi-Fi Smart Lock, and follow the Bluetooth pairing and Wi-Fi configuration prompts. Next, add the doorbell camera by selecting "August View" from the device list. The app will connect to the camera via Bluetooth, then configure its Wi-Fi connection. Both devices will appear on your August app dashboard, letting you manage lock status and doorbell video from a single interface.

Smart Home Integration Tips

Both the August View doorbell and the Wi-Fi Smart Lock support Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit. With Alexa, you can view the doorbell's live feed on Echo Show devices and lock or unlock your door by voice. Google Home allows similar controls through Nest Hub displays. In HomeKit, both devices appear as accessories, enabling automations like automatically locking the door when the doorbell detects no motion for five minutes.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the doorbell camera shows a weak signal, consider moving your Wi-Fi router closer or adding a mesh Wi-Fi extender near the front door. If the smart lock's motor struggles during calibration, try a different tailpiece adapter. Both devices require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi — ensure your network is not set to 5 GHz only. Check the August app for firmware updates regularly, as these often resolve connectivity and performance issues.
