What's in the Box
The Blink Outdoor Floodlight Camera package includes the camera unit with integrated floodlights, a mounting arm, a wiring junction box cover, wire nuts, screws and wall anchors, and a quick-start guide. Some bundles also include a Blink Sync Module 2. The floodlight camera requires hardwired power (110–240V AC) and replaces an existing outdoor floodlight fixture or connects to a weatherproof junction box, so this is not a battery-powered device.
Prerequisites
Because the Blink Outdoor Floodlight Camera connects to your home's electrical wiring, you must be comfortable working with household AC wiring or hire a licensed electrician. Before starting, turn off the breaker controlling the outdoor light circuit. Download the Blink app and ensure you have a Blink Sync Module 2 set up on your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. You will need a screwdriver, wire strippers, wire nuts (extras included), and a voltage tester to confirm the power is off.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Turn off the breaker for the outdoor light circuit. Use a voltage tester on the existing wires to confirm there is no power.
- Remove the existing outdoor light fixture from the junction box, disconnecting the wires carefully.
- Thread the Blink floodlight camera's wiring through the mounting arm and attach the mounting arm to the junction box using the provided screws. Ensure the mounting arm is secure and level.
- Connect the camera's wires to the junction box wires: black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green or bare copper to the ground wire. Secure each connection with wire nuts and wrap with electrical tape for extra protection.
- Attach the junction box cover plate to seal the wiring connections from weather exposure.
- Mount the camera unit onto the mounting arm. Adjust the floodlight heads and camera angle to cover your desired area.
- Restore power at the breaker. The camera's LED will begin flashing, indicating it is powered and ready for app pairing.
App Pairing and Configuration
Open the Blink app, tap the "+" icon, and select "Blink Outdoor Floodlight Camera." Scan the QR code on the device and follow the prompts to pair it with your Sync Module 2. Once connected, configure the floodlight settings: choose between motion-activated lights, always-on at dusk, or manual control. Set the floodlight brightness level and duration. Adjust the camera's motion detection zones and sensitivity to minimize false alerts from passing vehicles or animals while still catching activity on your driveway or yard.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Blink Outdoor Floodlight Camera works with Amazon Alexa for voice control of both the camera and the floodlights. You can say "Alexa, turn on the floodlights" or "Alexa, show me the driveway camera" on an Echo Show. Set up Alexa routines to turn on the floodlights at sunset and off at sunrise, or trigger them when the camera detects motion. The device does not natively support Google Home or Apple HomeKit.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the floodlight camera does not power on after restoring the breaker, re-check all wire connections inside the junction box — a loose wire nut is the most common issue. If the camera pairs but the floodlights do not respond, verify that the light switch controlling the circuit is turned on (the camera needs constant power). If Wi-Fi connectivity is weak outdoors, position your Sync Module 2 as close to an exterior wall as possible or add a mesh Wi-Fi extender to boost signal to the installation area.
