What You'll Need

  • Cielo Breez Eco Smart AC Controller
  • Cielo Home app (iOS or Android)
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
  • Air conditioner with an infrared (IR) remote
  • USB power cable (included)
  • Power outlet within reach of the AC unit

Before You Start

The Cielo Breez Eco is an entry-level smart AC controller that turns any IR-controlled air conditioner into a smart device. It works with mini-splits, window ACs, portable units, and heat pumps that use an infrared remote. Unlike a traditional thermostat, this device does not wire into your HVAC system. It simply sends IR signals to your AC, replacing the handheld remote with app-based and voice control.

Choosing the Right Spot

The Breez Eco needs a direct line of sight to your AC's IR receiver. Most mini-split indoor units have the IR sensor on the right side of the front panel. Window units usually have it behind a small dark window on the front face. Before mounting, hold the Breez Eco in the planned position and send a test command through the app. If the AC responds, that location will work.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Download the Cielo Home app and create an account or log in.
  2. Position the Cielo Breez Eco:
    • Within direct line of sight to the AC's IR receiver
    • Near a power outlet for the USB connection
    • Use the included adhesive mounting pad for wall attachment
  3. Power on the device by connecting the USB cable to a power adapter.
  4. Add the device in the app:
    • Tap "+" and follow the setup wizard
    • Connect the Breez Eco to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
    • Select your AC brand and model
    • Test the connection by sending a power-on command
  5. Verify all controls. Test power, temperature, fan speed, mode changes, and swing (if supported) to make sure everything works.

AC Compatibility Notes

The Breez Eco supports hundreds of AC brands through its IR code database. During setup, you will select your brand and the app will suggest one or more code profiles. Test each one until all AC functions respond correctly. If the pre-loaded codes do not match your AC perfectly, the Breez Eco includes a learning mode. Point your original AC remote at the Breez Eco and press each button -- the device will learn and store the signals.

The Eco model works with cooling, heating (heat pump mode), dry/dehumidify, and fan-only modes on compatible units. Some advanced features like swing angle control may not be available for every brand.

Smart Home Integration

The Cielo Breez Eco integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands. You can turn the AC on or off, set a target temperature, and change modes using voice. The Cielo Home app supports basic IFTTT triggers for custom automations. SmartThings integration is available on the Breez Plus model but is limited on the Eco. For Home Assistant users, integration is possible through IFTTT webhooks or community-developed plugins.

Energy Saving Features

  • Weekly scheduling lets you program the AC to run at specific times and temperatures for each day of the week
  • Location-based triggers can turn the AC off when you leave a geofenced area and back on when you return
  • Temperature-based triggers turn the AC on or off when the room hits a specific temperature threshold
  • Timer mode lets you set the AC to turn off after a set number of hours, useful for nighttime cooling

Troubleshooting

  • IR signal not reaching AC: Reposition the Breez Eco so the IR emitter has a clear, unobstructed path to the AC's receiver. Avoid placing it behind furniture or at an extreme angle. If the range seems short, make sure the IR window on the device is clean and free of dust.
  • Wrong AC codes: If the auto-detected codes only partially work (for example, power works but temperature does not), switch to the next code set in the app. If none work fully, use the learning mode to capture signals from your original remote one button at a time.
  • Won't connect to Wi-Fi: The Breez Eco supports only 2.4GHz networks. If your router broadcasts combined bands, temporarily separate them. Ensure the LED on the device is in fast-blink mode (pairing mode). If the LED is solid, press and hold the reset button until it starts blinking.
  • App shows "offline": Check that your Wi-Fi is working and the device has power. If the USB cable is loose, the device may lose connection intermittently. Try a different USB cable or power adapter.
  • Factory reset: Press and hold the button on the device until the LED starts flashing rapidly. This erases all settings and returns the Breez Eco to setup mode.
