What You'll Need
- Cielo Breez Plus Smart AC Controller
- Cielo Home app (iOS or Android)
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Air conditioner with an infrared (IR) remote control
- USB power adapter and micro-USB cable (included)
- Power outlet near the AC unit
Before You Start
The Cielo Breez Plus is not a traditional thermostat -- it is a smart controller that replaces your AC's infrared remote with app and voice control. It works with any air conditioner that uses an IR remote, including mini-splits, window units, portable ACs, and heat pumps. The device sends IR signals to your AC just like the original remote does, but with the added intelligence of scheduling, automation, and smart home integration.
Placement Is Everything
The Breez Plus must have a clear line of sight to your AC's IR receiver. Most wall-mounted mini-splits have the receiver on the front panel, usually near one side. Window units typically have the receiver behind a small window on the front. Before committing to a mounting location, test by holding the Breez Plus in position and sending a command from the app. If the AC responds, that spot works.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Download the Cielo Home app and create an account. You can manage multiple Cielo devices under one account.
- Position the Cielo Breez Plus:
- Mount within 8 meters (about 25 feet) of the AC's IR receiver
- Keep the IR emitter pointed directly at the AC
- Use the included 3M adhesive tape for wall or shelf mounting
- Make sure no furniture, curtains, or other objects block the IR path
- Connect power using the included USB cable and adapter. Plug into a nearby outlet.
- Add the device in the Cielo Home app:
- Tap the "+" icon and select Add Device
- Put the Breez Plus into pairing mode (the LED should blink rapidly)
- Connect it to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Select your AC brand and model from the database
- Test all AC functions. Verify that power on/off, temperature changes, fan speed, and mode switching all work correctly from the app.
AC Compatibility Notes
The Cielo Breez Plus supports over 500 AC brands. When you select your brand in the app, it may offer several IR code sets to try. If the first set does not work for all functions, try the next option. Some AC brands use different codes across model years. If none of the pre-loaded codes work, the Breez Plus has a learning mode where you can teach it the signals from your original remote by pointing the remote at the device and pressing each button.
The device works with cooling-only ACs, heat pumps, and units with dry/dehumidify and fan-only modes. If your AC has advanced features like swing direction or turbo mode, those may or may not be available depending on the IR code compatibility.
Smart Home Integration
The Cielo Breez Plus works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and Siri Shortcuts. Through Alexa or Google, you can set temperatures, switch modes, and turn the AC on or off by voice. SmartThings integration lets you include the AC in automations with other smart home devices. The Cielo Home app also connects to IFTTT for custom triggers. For Home Assistant users, integration is available through the SmartThings bridge or community plugins.
Energy Saving Features
- Comfy Mode automatically adjusts the AC temperature based on the room's actual temperature and humidity readings from the built-in sensors, keeping you comfortable without overcooling
- Weekly scheduling lets you program the AC for each day of the week with different temperature targets and modes
- Geofencing turns the AC off when you leave home and back on when you return, based on your phone's GPS
- Temperature and humidity triggers can start or stop the AC when the room reaches certain thresholds
- Usage history in the app shows how often and how long the AC runs, helping you spot waste
Troubleshooting
- AC not responding to commands: Check that the Breez Plus has a clear line of sight to the AC's IR receiver. Even a small obstruction can block the signal. Try repositioning the device closer or at a different angle. If repositioning does not help, try a different IR code set for your AC brand in the app.
- Won't connect to Wi-Fi: The Breez Plus only supports 2.4GHz networks. If your router broadcasts a combined network, try splitting the bands temporarily. Press and hold the reset button on the device until the LED blinks rapidly to re-enter pairing mode.
- Wrong AC model or partial control: If some buttons work (like power) but others do not (like temperature or fan speed), try the auto-detection feature in the app. It cycles through compatible code sets and asks you to confirm which commands work. You can also use the manual learning mode to capture signals directly from your original remote.
- Temperature readings seem inaccurate: The built-in sensor measures the temperature at the Breez Plus's location, which may differ from the room temperature if the device is mounted near the AC (where cold air blows directly). Position it away from the direct airflow for more accurate readings.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the button on the Breez Plus for 10 or more seconds until the LED flashes rapidly. This clears all settings and returns the device to pairing mode.
