What's in the Box
Your Kwikset Halo Touch WiFi Fingerprint Smart Lock package includes the exterior assembly with fingerprint reader, interior assembly with thumb turn, mounting plate, strike plate, two keys for manual backup, four AA batteries, and all necessary screws and hardware. You'll also find a door prep template and quick-start guide. Before beginning installation, verify all components are present and undamaged.
Prerequisites
The Halo Touch requires a standard door prep with a 2-1/8" cross bore and 1" edge bore. Your door should be between 1-3/8" and 2" thick. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver and possibly a drill if your door doesn't already have the correct bore holes. Ensure your home WiFi network operates on the 2.4GHz band, as the Halo Touch does not support 5GHz networks. Download the Kwikset app on your iOS or Android device before starting installation.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Remove your existing deadbolt by unscrewing the interior assembly and pulling both halves away from the door. Remove the old strike plate from the door frame.
- Install the new latch assembly into the edge bore, making sure the latch face is flush with the door edge. The "UP" marking on the latch should face upward.
- Place the exterior assembly through the door from the outside, feeding the cable through the latch hole. Ensure the fingerprint reader is positioned where it's easily accessible.
- On the interior side, connect the ribbon cable to the interior assembly. Align the mounting plate over the screw posts and tighten the two long mounting screws evenly. Do not overtighten, as this can cause binding.
- Attach the interior assembly onto the mounting plate, ensuring it snaps securely into place.
- Install the new strike plate on the door frame, using the provided screws for a secure fit.
- Insert four AA batteries into the battery compartment on the interior assembly and close the cover.
- Test the thumb turn and manual key to confirm the deadbolt extends and retracts smoothly before proceeding to app setup.
Pairing with the Kwikset App
Open the Kwikset app and create an account or sign in. Tap "Add Device" and select "Halo Touch" from the product list. The app will guide you through connecting the lock to your WiFi network. Hold your phone within a few feet of the lock during this process. Once connected, you'll be prompted to enroll your first fingerprint by placing your finger on the sensor multiple times at different angles. You can register up to 100 fingerprints across 50 user profiles.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The Kwikset Halo Touch works natively with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. To enable voice control, link your Kwikset account within the Alexa or Google Home app. You can then lock the door by voice, though unlocking by voice requires a PIN code for security. The lock also supports IFTTT for advanced automations like auto-locking when you leave home. For Apple HomeKit users, note that the Halo Touch does not support HomeKit natively, so you may need a third-party bridge.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the lock doesn't respond during setup, confirm the batteries are properly seated and the ribbon cable is fully connected. If WiFi pairing fails, move your router closer temporarily or check that you're connecting to a 2.4GHz network. A factory reset can be performed by removing one battery, holding the program button, reinserting the battery, and then releasing the button after 30 seconds. This will clear all codes and fingerprints, allowing a fresh setup.
