What's in the Box
The Level Lock+ (Plus) is a sleek smart lock that replaces your existing deadbolt while maintaining the look of a traditional lock from the outside. Inside the box, you'll find the Level Lock+ interior assembly, the exterior lock housing, mounting hardware including screws and adapters, a CR2 battery, a key card for backup access, and an installation guide. The Level Lock+ stands out for its invisible smart technology — all the electronics are hidden inside the lock, with no visible keypads or bulky hardware.
Prerequisites
Before installation, make sure you have:
- A standard deadbolt door preparation with a 2-1/8 inch bore hole (most US residential doors)
- A smartphone with the Level Home app installed (iOS or Android)
- A Phillips head screwdriver
- The door should open and close properly with the existing deadbolt — if the door is misaligned, fix that first to ensure smooth lock operation
- Confirm your door thickness is between 1-3/8 inches and 2 inches (standard for most residential doors)
Step-by-Step Installation
- Remove your existing deadbolt by unscrewing the interior mounting plate and pulling out both the interior and exterior assemblies. Remove the bolt mechanism from the edge of the door.
- Install the Level Lock+ bolt assembly into the door edge. Make sure the bolt extends and retracts smoothly. Use the included strike plate if your existing one doesn't match.
- Insert the exterior housing through the bore hole from the outside of the door. Align it with the bolt mechanism's tailpiece.
- From inside the door, place the interior assembly over the mounting posts. The tailpiece adapter inside connects the interior motor to the bolt. Secure the interior assembly with the included mounting screws, but don't overtighten — snug is sufficient.
- Insert the CR2 battery into the battery compartment on the interior assembly. The lock will initialize with a series of calibration movements, extending and retracting the bolt to learn its range of motion.
- Test the lock manually by turning the interior thumb turn to verify smooth operation in both locked and unlocked positions.
App Pairing and Configuration
Open the Level Home app and create an account or sign in. Tap Add a Device and select Level Lock+. The app will detect the lock via Bluetooth — hold your phone within a few feet of the lock. Follow the prompts to name the lock and assign it to your home. The app will guide you through calibrating the locked and unlocked positions. You can also set up auto-lock (the lock engages after a set time) and auto-unlock (the lock disengages as you approach with your phone).
Smart Home Integration Tips
- The Level Lock+ works natively with Apple HomeKit, so you can add it to the Apple Home app for Siri voice control, automation, and remote access via an Apple TV or HomePod acting as a home hub.
- The included NFC key card lets you unlock the door by tapping the card against the lock — great for family members who don't have smartphones.
- Share access with family members or guests through the Level Home app. You can set time-limited access for guests and revoke it anytime.
- For integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Home, you'll need the Level Connect Wi-Fi bridge (sold separately), which extends the lock's connectivity beyond Bluetooth range.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the lock doesn't calibrate properly after battery insertion, remove the interior assembly and check that the tailpiece adapter is correctly engaged with the bolt mechanism. If the lock is stiff during manual operation, check door alignment — the bolt should slide freely into the strike plate without forcing. For Bluetooth pairing issues, ensure your phone's Bluetooth is on and you're within three feet of the lock during setup. Replace the CR2 battery if the lock becomes sluggish or unresponsive, as Level locks depend on a single battery that typically lasts about a year.
