What's in the Box

Your Lutron Caseta Pico Remote Control package includes the Pico remote, a wallplate mounting bracket, screws for wall installation, and a setup guide. The Pico is a battery-powered wireless remote that communicates with Caseta devices through Lutron's Clear Connect RF protocol via your Caseta Smart Bridge. It can be used as a handheld remote, placed on a tabletop pedestal (sold separately), or mounted on a wall to act as an additional switch location.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the Pico remote, make sure you have:

  • A Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge already set up and connected to your network
  • At least one Caseta device (dimmer, switch, plug, or shade) already paired to the bridge
  • The Lutron Caseta app installed on your smartphone
  • A small Phillips screwdriver if you plan to wall-mount the remote

The Pico remote runs on a coin-cell battery (CR2032) pre-installed in the unit. The battery typically lasts up to 10 years with normal use, so there is no need to charge or replace it during initial setup.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Open the Lutron Caseta app and navigate to "Add Device" from the main menu.
  2. Select "Remotes" from the device type list, then choose "Pico Remote."
  3. The app will prompt you to press and release the top button on the Pico remote. This sends a signal to the bridge and begins the pairing process.
  4. Once the bridge recognizes the Pico, you will be asked to assign it to a specific device or room. Select the light, fan, shade, or scene you want the Pico to control.
  5. Name the Pico remote and assign it to a room for organizational purposes within the app.
  6. Test the remote by pressing the top button to turn on the assigned device and the bottom button to turn it off. The center button can be configured as a favorite level or scene trigger depending on the device type.

Wall Mounting

To use the Pico as a wall-mounted switch, attach the included wallplate bracket to a standard single-gang electrical box or directly to the wall surface using the provided screws. The Pico snaps magnetically into the bracket, making it easy to remove when you want to use it as a handheld remote. This setup is especially useful for creating a three-way or multi-location switch configuration without running new wires. Simply replace the second toggle switch with a blank cover and mount the Pico nearby.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The Pico remote works independently of Wi-Fi and internet, communicating directly with the Caseta bridge over Clear Connect RF. This means it continues to function even during internet outages. In the Lutron app, you can program the Pico's center "favorite" button to set a specific dimming level or activate a scene that controls multiple devices simultaneously. For example, set the center button to a "Movie Night" scene that dims the living room lights to 20% and closes your Serena shades.

While the Pico itself does not appear as a device in Alexa or HomeKit, the scenes and devices it controls are accessible through those platforms.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the Pico remote does not pair, confirm that your Smart Bridge is powered on with two solid green LEDs. Move within 30 feet of the bridge during pairing. If the remote was previously paired to a different bridge, you may need to reset it by pressing and holding the top and bottom buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the LED on the Pico blinks. If the remote stops working after successful pairing, try replacing the CR2032 battery, especially if the remote is several years old.
