What's in the Box

Your Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Switch package includes the in-wall on/off switch, a matching faceplate and wallplate bracket, wire connectors, and an installation guide. Unlike the Caseta dimmer, this switch provides simple on/off control and is ideal for non-dimmable loads such as bathroom exhaust fans, garbage disposals, or light fixtures with non-dimmable bulbs. It supports loads up to 5A for motors and fans or 600W for lighting.

Prerequisites

Before you begin the installation, gather the following:

  • A Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge already configured and connected to your router
  • A Phillips-head screwdriver and a non-contact voltage tester
  • Access to your home's electrical panel to shut off the appropriate breaker
  • The Lutron Caseta app installed on your smartphone

Like all Caseta in-wall devices, this switch does not require a neutral wire. It works in single-pole configurations and can also operate in multi-location setups when paired with a Pico remote mounted at a second switch location.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker that controls the switch you plan to replace. Verify the power is off by testing the existing switch with a non-contact voltage tester.
  2. Remove the faceplate and unscrew the existing switch from the electrical box. Gently pull the switch away from the wall to expose the wire connections.
  3. Disconnect the wires from the old switch. Identify the hot (line) wire, the load wire leading to the fixture, and the ground wire.
  4. Connect the Caseta switch's green wire to the bare copper or green ground wire in the box using a wire connector.
  5. Attach the black wire from the Caseta switch to the hot (line) wire and the blue wire to the load wire. Secure all connections with the provided wire connectors and push the wires neatly into the box.
  6. Mount the switch to the electrical box using the included screws. Snap on the wallplate bracket and then the decorative faceplate.
  7. Turn the circuit breaker back on. Press the top button on the switch to confirm the connected load turns on.

App Pairing

Open the Lutron Caseta app and navigate to "Add Device." Select "Dimmers and Switches" from the device list and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, press the top button on the switch to put it into pairing mode. The Caseta Smart Bridge uses Clear Connect RF technology to communicate with the switch on a dedicated wireless frequency, separate from your Wi-Fi network. This ensures reliable operation even in homes with congested wireless environments. After pairing, assign the switch a descriptive name and room for easy identification.

Smart Home Integration Tips

Once paired with your bridge, the Caseta switch automatically appears in any connected voice assistant platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit. You can include the switch in automated scenes within the Lutron app. For example, create a "Good Morning" scene that turns on the kitchen light and bathroom fan simultaneously. If you need to control this switch from a second wall location, mount a Pico remote with the included wallplate kit to simulate a traditional three-way switch setup without running new wires.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the switch does not respond after installation, verify the circuit breaker is on and test for power at the switch with a voltage tester. If the LED indicator on the switch is lit but the connected fixture does not activate, double-check that the load wire is securely connected. For pairing difficulties, ensure the Smart Bridge is online by checking its LED status and that you are within 30 feet of the bridge during the pairing process. A factory reset of the switch can be performed by pressing the top button three times, then holding the bottom button until the status LED blinks.
