Important Safety Warning
Turn off power at the circuit breaker before installation. Ceiling fan installation may require two people due to weight. If you're not comfortable with electrical work, hire a licensed electrician.
What You'll Need
- Minka-Aire F844-DK Light Wave Smart Ceiling Fan
- Smartphone with the Minka-Aire app
- Ladder
- Screwdriver and wire strippers
- Fan-rated electrical box (required - must support fan weight)
- Wire nuts
Step 1: Turn Off Power
Turn off power at the circuit breaker. Use a voltage tester to confirm no power is present.
Step 2: Remove Old Fixture
Remove the existing light fixture or fan. If replacing a light, you may need to install a fan-rated electrical box.
Step 3: Install Mounting Bracket
Attach the Minka-Aire F844-DK Light Wave Smart Ceiling Fan mounting bracket to the electrical box. Ensure it's secure - it must support the full weight of the fan.
Step 4: Assemble the Fan
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to assemble the fan motor, blades, and light kit (if included). This is usually easier to do before mounting.
Step 5: Connect Wires
Connect the wires: black to black (or red for separate light control), white to white, and green to green/bare ground. Secure with wire nuts and wrap with electrical tape.
Step 6: Mount the Fan
Hang the fan motor on the mounting bracket. This is where a second person helps. Secure according to instructions.
Step 7: Install Blades and Light
Attach the fan blades and light kit. Balance the blades if the fan wobbles.
Step 8: Restore Power and Set Up
Turn the power back on. Download the Minka-Aire app and add the fan. Configure speeds, light settings, and schedules.
