What You Will Need
- Ring Battery Doorbell Plus
- Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network
- Charged battery pack (charge using the included USB-C cable before installation)
- Phillips screwdriver or drill
- Mounting screws and anchors (included)
- Level (optional)
Step 1: Charge the Battery
Before installation, fully charge the included rechargeable battery pack. Connect the USB-C cable to the battery and plug it into a USB power adapter. The LED indicator on the battery will turn solid green when fully charged. A full charge takes approximately five to six hours.
Step 2: Set Up in the Ring App
- Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
- Select Doorbells, then choose Battery Doorbell Plus.
- Scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell or on the Quick Start Guide.
- Insert the charged battery into the doorbell. The button on the front will glow as the device powers on.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the doorbell to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
- Name your doorbell and assign it to a location.
It is recommended to complete the app setup before mounting the doorbell so you can confirm WiFi connectivity at the intended installation location.
Step 3: Mount the Doorbell
- If you have an existing wired doorbell, remove it and disconnect the wires. The Battery Doorbell Plus can optionally use existing doorbell wiring (16-24 VAC) to trickle-charge the battery, but it is not required.
- Hold the included mounting bracket against the wall next to your door at approximately four feet above the ground. Use a level to ensure it is straight.
- Mark the screw holes, then drill pilot holes. Insert wall anchors if mounting on brick or masonry.
- If using existing doorbell wires, thread them through the bracket and connect them to the terminals on the back of the doorbell.
- Secure the mounting bracket with the included screws.
- Snap the doorbell onto the bracket and tighten the security screw at the bottom using the included tool.
Step 4: Configure Motion Settings
The Battery Doorbell Plus features a head-to-toe HD+ video with a tall 150 x 150 degree field of view. Configure your motion settings to get the most out of it:
- Motion Zones — Define specific areas within the camera's field of view to monitor. Exclude areas like busy sidewalks to reduce unnecessary alerts.
- Motion Sensitivity — Adjust the slider to balance between catching important events and minimizing false notifications.
- Smart Alerts — With a Ring Protect plan, enable package and person detection for more relevant notifications.
Step 5: Test Your Doorbell
- Press the doorbell button and verify you receive a notification on your phone.
- Check the live view to confirm the camera angle captures your porch and walkway.
- Walk through the motion detection zone and verify you receive a motion alert.
- Test the two-way audio by speaking through the app while standing at the door.
Tips for Best Performance
- Battery life typically lasts six to twelve months depending on activity level. High-traffic areas drain the battery faster.
- For continuous charging, connect to existing doorbell wiring or add a Ring Solar Charger.
- Use the included wedge kit to angle the doorbell up to 15 degrees if needed to better capture your walkway.
- A Ring Protect subscription is required to store and review recorded video clips.
