What You Will Need
- Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro
- Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
- Existing outdoor electrical junction box with 120V wiring
- A 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network
- Wire nuts (included)
- Phillips screwdriver
- Drill
- Wire stripper (if needed)
- Ladder (for elevated installations)
- Non-contact voltage tester (recommended)
Important Safety Warning
This installation involves working with 120V household electrical wiring. If you are not comfortable working with electricity, hire a licensed electrician. Always turn off power at the circuit breaker and verify the wires are not live using a voltage tester before touching any wiring.
Step 1: Turn Off Power
- Locate the circuit breaker that controls the outdoor light fixture you are replacing.
- Switch the breaker to the OFF position.
- Use a non-contact voltage tester at the junction box to confirm the power is off before proceeding.
Step 2: Remove the Old Fixture
- Remove the existing outdoor light fixture from the junction box.
- Disconnect the wires by removing the wire nuts. You should see a black (hot) wire, a white (neutral) wire, and a green or bare copper (ground) wire.
- If there is no existing junction box, you will need to have one installed by an electrician.
Step 3: Mount the Floodlight Cam
- Attach the included mounting bracket to the junction box using the provided screws.
- Connect the wires from the junction box to the Floodlight Cam wires: black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green to green or bare copper (ground). Secure each connection with the included wire nuts.
- Carefully tuck the wires into the junction box.
- Attach the Floodlight Cam to the mounting bracket and tighten the screws. The camera unit should face outward with the floodlight arms extending to either side.
Step 4: Restore Power and Set Up
- Turn the circuit breaker back on. The Floodlight Cam's lights will turn on briefly and the camera's LED will begin flashing.
- Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
- Select Cameras, then choose Floodlight Cam Wired Pro.
- Scan the QR code on the camera and follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your WiFi network.
- Name the device and assign it to a location.
Step 5: Adjust the Camera and Lights
- Adjust the two floodlight arms to illuminate the areas you want covered. Each arm can be pivoted and angled independently.
- Adjust the camera angle by loosening the ball joint on the camera housing. Point the camera to capture the most important area, such as a driveway, backyard, or side entrance.
- In the Ring app, configure 3D Motion Detection zones using the built-in radar sensor. The Pro model offers precise motion detection with Bird's Eye View mapping.
- Set light schedules and adjust brightness levels in the app.
Tips for Best Performance
- Mount the Floodlight Cam at a height of nine feet or higher for optimal coverage and to prevent tampering.
- The Bird's Eye View feature uses radar to track motion paths across your property. This requires a Ring Protect subscription.
- The built-in 110 dB siren can be triggered manually from the app or set to activate automatically during alarm events.
- The dual floodlights output 2,000 lumens combined, providing excellent illumination for driveways and large outdoor areas.
