What You Will Need

  • Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • Existing doorbell wiring (16-24 VAC transformer required)
  • Pro Power Kit V2 (included)
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • Drill with 5/32-inch bit
  • Level (optional but helpful)
  • A 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network

Step 1: Check Your Existing Doorbell Wiring

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 requires hardwired power and does not operate on battery. Before starting, verify you have a doorbell transformer rated between 16 and 24 VAC. Transformers rated below 16 VAC will not provide enough power and may cause performance issues.

If you are replacing an existing wired doorbell, you likely already have compatible wiring. If you are unsure about your transformer rating, check the transformer typically located near your electrical panel, in a utility closet, or in the attic.

Step 2: Install the Pro Power Kit V2

  1. Turn off power to your existing doorbell at the circuit breaker.
  2. Remove the cover of your indoor doorbell chime to expose the wiring terminals.
  3. Locate the Front and Trans terminals on your chime.
  4. Connect the included Pro Power Kit V2 by attaching its wires to these two terminals. The Pro Power Kit ensures a consistent power supply to your doorbell.
  5. Replace the chime cover.

Step 3: Remove Your Old Doorbell

  1. With the power still off, unscrew and remove your existing doorbell from the wall.
  2. Disconnect the two wires from the back of the old doorbell. Do not let the wires fall back into the wall — wrap them around a pencil or tape them in place temporarily.

Step 4: Mount the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2

  1. Hold the included mounting bracket against the wall. Use a level to ensure it is straight, then mark the screw hole positions.
  2. Drill pilot holes and insert wall anchors if mounting on brick, stucco, or masonry.
  3. Thread the two doorbell wires through the bracket, then secure the bracket to the wall with the included screws.
  4. Connect the doorbell wires to the two screw terminals on the back of the Doorbell Pro 2. The wires are not polarity-sensitive, so either wire can go to either terminal.
  5. Attach the doorbell to the mounting bracket by pressing it firmly and securing it with the included security screw on the bottom.

Step 5: Restore Power and Set Up in the Ring App

  1. Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker. The doorbell's light ring will spin white while it boots up.
  2. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  3. Select Doorbells and scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell or in the Quick Start Guide.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the doorbell to your WiFi network.
  5. Name your doorbell and configure motion zones.

Tips for Best Performance

  • The Pro 2 features 3D Motion Detection with built-in radar. Set precise motion zones to reduce false alerts.
  • Use the included corner and wedge kits to angle the doorbell if your door is recessed or positioned at an angle to the walkway.
  • The Pro 2 supports Bird's Eye View, which shows an overhead map of motion events on your property.
  • A Ring Protect subscription is required to save recordings and unlock advanced features like Person Detection and Rich Notifications.
