What You'll Need
- Sensibo Air Smart AC Controller
- Sensibo app (iOS or Android)
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Air conditioner with an IR remote control
- USB-C power cable (included)
- Power adapter or powered USB-C port
Before You Start
The Sensibo Air is the mid-range option in Sensibo's lineup, offering a sleeker design and a wider IR transmission angle than the Sensibo Sky. It works with any air conditioner or heat pump controlled by an infrared remote -- mini-splits, window units, portable ACs, and ceiling cassettes. Like other smart AC controllers, it does not wire into your HVAC. It sits near the AC and sends IR signals based on your app commands, voice instructions, or automated rules.
Placement Considerations
The Sensibo Air has a wide-angle IR blaster that covers roughly 180 degrees, so it does not need to be pointed as precisely as some competitors. Still, you want it within clear line of sight of the AC's IR receiver, ideally within 8 meters. The sleek design is meant to be wall-mounted, and the included 3M adhesive or screw mount options make installation straightforward. Avoid placing it directly in the AC's airstream, as this will give the built-in temperature sensor inaccurate readings.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Download the Sensibo app and create an account or log in.
- Mount the Sensibo Air:
- Choose a spot with clear line of sight to the AC
- Use 3M adhesive tape or screws to mount on the wall
- Keep it away from direct AC airflow for accurate temperature readings
- Connect USB-C power to the device.
- Add the device in the Sensibo app:
- Tap "+" and select Sensibo Air
- The app uses Bluetooth for initial pairing, so keep it enabled on your phone
- Auto-detect your AC or manually select the brand and model
- Connect the device to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Verify all AC modes work. Test power, temperature adjustment, fan speed, mode switching, and swing control.
AC Compatibility Notes
The Sensibo Air supports thousands of AC brands and models through its comprehensive IR database. During setup, select your brand and the app suggests compatible code profiles. If the auto-detect option does not find a perfect match, try each suggested profile and test the functions. The learning mode is available as a fallback -- point your original remote at the Sensibo Air and press each button to teach the device your AC's specific IR codes.
The Sensibo Air works with all standard modes: cool, heat, dry, fan-only, and auto. It also handles swing and turbo modes when your AC supports them. It is compatible with both single-zone and multi-zone setups (one Sensibo Air per indoor unit).
Smart Home Integration
The Sensibo Air integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTTT. HomeKit support lets you control the AC from Apple Home, build automations with other HomeKit accessories, and use Siri voice commands. The Sensibo API is well-documented, making it a favorite among Home Assistant users. The official Sensibo integration for Home Assistant provides full control including temperature, mode, fan speed, and swing.
Energy Saving Features
- Climate React uses the built-in temperature and humidity sensors to automatically trigger AC adjustments based on rules you define, keeping the room comfortable while minimizing runtime
- Geofencing detects when you leave home and turns the AC off, then restarts it as you approach
- Weekly scheduling allows you to set AC programs for each day with multiple time blocks
- Motion detection through the built-in sensor can identify when a room is unoccupied and adjust accordingly
- Usage analytics show runtime, temperature trends, and humidity data over time
Troubleshooting
- IR signal not reaching the AC: Even though the Sensibo Air has a wide transmission angle, obstructions between the device and the AC will block the signal. Check for furniture, curtains, or decorations in the way. If the signal works intermittently, try moving the device slightly closer.
- AC modes missing in the app: If your AC supports modes (like swing or turbo) that do not appear in the Sensibo app, try a different code profile for your brand. You can also use the learning mode to add missing functions from your original remote.
- Won't connect to Wi-Fi: The Sensibo Air requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Make sure Bluetooth is on during initial pairing (the app uses it to communicate with the device). If Wi-Fi setup fails, try moving your phone closer to the Sensibo during setup and verify the Wi-Fi password.
- Temperature readings are off: If the Sensibo is mounted in direct AC airflow, the sensor will read lower than the actual room temperature. Mount it on the wall away from the air stream. Allow 15-20 minutes after moving it for the sensor to equilibrate.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the button on the Sensibo Air for 15 or more seconds until the LED indicator blinks rapidly. This clears all settings and returns the device to pairing mode.
