What You'll Need
- Sensibo Air Pro Smart AC Controller
- Sensibo app (iOS or Android)
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Air conditioner with an IR remote control
- USB-C power cable and adapter
Before You Start
The Sensibo Air Pro is the premium model in the Sensibo lineup, adding air quality monitoring sensors (PM2.5, TVOC, CO2 equivalent, and ethanol) on top of the standard temperature and humidity sensors. It works with any IR-controlled air conditioner, including mini-splits, window units, portable ACs, and heat pumps. The air quality data feeds into automations that can trigger the AC or alert you when indoor air quality drops.
Placement for Best Results
Since the Air Pro includes air quality sensors, placement matters more than with basic IR controllers. Mount it at a height roughly between 3 and 5 feet from the floor, where air quality readings will reflect the breathing zone. Avoid placing it directly in the AC's airstream, as that will skew both temperature and air quality readings. The device should still have a clear line of sight to the AC's IR receiver.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Download the Sensibo app and sign in or create a new account.
- Mount the Sensibo Air Pro:
- Choose a location with line of sight to the AC and good air circulation
- Wall mount using the included adhesive pad or screws
- Keep it away from windows, cooking areas, or direct AC airflow
- Connect USB-C power.
- Add the device in the Sensibo app:
- Tap "+" and select Air Pro
- Enable Bluetooth for initial pairing
- Configure your AC type and brand
- Connect to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Test all AC functions and allow the air quality sensors to calibrate (this takes about 24 hours for accurate readings).
AC Compatibility Notes
Like other Sensibo devices, the Air Pro uses an IR blaster with a comprehensive code database covering thousands of AC models. The setup process is the same -- select your brand, test the code profile, and switch to a different profile if any functions do not work. The learning mode is available for ACs that are not in the database. The Air Pro's wider IR transmission angle means you have more flexibility in placement compared to some budget controllers.
Smart Home Integration
The Sensibo Air Pro works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTTT. The air quality data is exposed through HomeKit, so you can build Apple Home automations based on indoor air quality levels. For example, you could trigger a fan or air purifier when PM2.5 exceeds a threshold. Home Assistant's official Sensibo integration provides full control over the AC and access to all sensor data, making the Air Pro particularly useful for advanced automations.
Energy Saving Features
- Climate React monitors temperature and humidity and automatically adjusts the AC to maintain target conditions while minimizing energy use
- Pure Boost mode combines air quality readings with Climate React. When air quality drops, it can trigger the AC fan or adjust settings to circulate and filter the air
- Geofencing shuts off the AC when you leave and restarts it before you arrive home
- Weekly scheduling programs different temperatures and modes for each day
- Filter cleaning alerts track runtime and remind you when the AC filter needs attention
- Usage analytics show AC runtime alongside temperature, humidity, and air quality trends
Troubleshooting
- Air quality readings seem wrong or erratic: The sensors need about 24 hours of continuous operation to fully calibrate. During this period, readings may jump around. After calibration, if values still seem off, make sure the device is not near a window, cooking area, or cleaning product storage -- these can all produce misleading spikes.
- AC not responding to IR commands: Verify line of sight between the Air Pro and the AC's IR receiver. The wide-angle blaster helps, but solid objects still block the signal. Try a test with the original remote from the Air Pro's position. If the remote works from there but the Air Pro does not, try a different code profile.
- Won't connect to Wi-Fi: The Air Pro requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Enable Bluetooth on your phone for the initial pairing step. If the Wi-Fi connection drops frequently after setup, check the signal strength at the device location and consider adding a mesh node or range extender.
- Pure Boost or Climate React behaving unexpectedly: Review your automation rules in the Sensibo app. Conflicting rules (for example, one turning the AC on at 75 degrees and another turning it off at 74 degrees) can cause rapid cycling. Also check that the temperature sensor is not affected by direct airflow.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the button on the device for 15 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly. This clears all stored settings and returns the Air Pro to its initial pairing state.
