What You'll Need
- Shelly 1 Mini Gen3
- Switched lighting or appliance circuit
- Smartphone with Shelly app
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
- Wire connectors
- Screwdriver
- Voltage tester
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off power: Switch off the circuit breaker for the circuit you're working on. Verify with a voltage tester.
- Identify wiring: Locate the line (hot), neutral, and switched wire in your junction box or switch location.
- Wire the Shelly 1 Mini:
- L (Line) → Hot wire from panel
- N (Neutral) → Neutral wire
- O (Output) → Wire going to the load (light/device)
- SW (Switch) → Connect to existing wall switch if keeping manual control
- Fit in junction box: The Mini Gen3's compact size fits behind most switches and outlets.
- Restore power: Turn the circuit breaker back on. The Shelly will create a Wi-Fi access point.
- Download Shelly app: Install and create a Shelly Cloud account.
- Add the device: The app will discover the Shelly on your network, or tap "+" to add manually.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Configure the Shelly to join your home Wi-Fi network.

Troubleshooting
- Shelly not creating access point: Ensure power connections are correct. Check that L and N have proper voltage. Hold button for 10 seconds to factory reset.
- Switch not controlling the light: Verify SW terminal is connected to the wall switch. Configure button type in app settings.
- Wi-Fi disconnects: Check signal strength. The Shelly's position inside the wall can reduce Wi-Fi range. Add Wi-Fi extender if needed.
- Relay clicking but light not working: The relay is working—check the load wiring. Verify the output wire is connected to the correct circuit.
- Overheating: Ensure load doesn't exceed 8A. Provide ventilation in the junction box. Don't overload the relay.
