What You'll Need

  • Shelly Plus 1 PM
  • Switched circuit (up to 16A)
  • Smartphone with Shelly app
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
  • Wire connectors
  • Screwdriver
  • Voltage tester

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Turn off power: Disconnect power at the circuit breaker. Verify with a voltage tester.
  2. Plan the installation: The Plus 1 PM fits behind wall switches, in junction boxes, or in electrical panels (with appropriate enclosure).
  3. Connect the wires:
    • L → Line (hot from panel)
    • N → Neutral
    • O → Output to controlled device
    • SW → Connection from wall switch (optional)
  4. Secure connections: Use appropriate wire nuts or terminal blocks. Ensure all connections are tight.
  5. Restore power: Turn on the circuit breaker. The Shelly LED will indicate power.
  6. Add to Shelly app: Open the app and tap "+" or let it auto-discover the new device.
  7. Join your Wi-Fi: Configure the Shelly to connect to your home network.
  8. Configure settings: Set button type, power-on behavior, and power monitoring preferences.
  9. View power data: Check real-time wattage and energy consumption in the app.

Key Features

  • 16A relay capacity
  • Built-in power monitoring
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • ESP32 processor for advanced scripting
  • Local control (works without cloud)
  • Home Assistant, MQTT, REST API support
  • Works with Alexa and Google Assistant
  • Energy consumption tracking

Troubleshooting

  • Power reading shows 0: Ensure current flows through the relay (it must be switched on). Check that the load is connected to the output terminal.
  • Inaccurate power readings: Calibrate in device settings if readings seem off. Very low wattage devices may not read accurately.
  • Bluetooth pairing fails: Ensure phone Bluetooth is enabled. Stay within 3 feet during initial pairing. Try resetting the Shelly.
  • Switch input not working: Verify SW terminal connection. Select correct button type (momentary, toggle, edge) in settings.
  • Device gets warm: Normal for high loads. Ensure load doesn't exceed 16A. Provide adequate ventilation.
