What You'll Need

  • Vine TJ-610 Wi-Fi Thermostat
  • Vine app (iOS or Android)
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Wire labels or tape

Before You Start

The Vine TJ-610 is a budget-friendly Wi-Fi thermostat with a touchscreen display. It works with most standard 24V HVAC systems including conventional gas and electric furnaces, heat pumps, and single-stage cooling. It does not support high-voltage (120V/240V) baseboard heaters or millivolt systems. At its price point, the TJ-610 offers solid basic smart features without the premium cost of name-brand competitors.

C-Wire Requirement

The Vine TJ-610 requires a C-wire for power. Without a C-wire, the thermostat will not turn on or maintain a Wi-Fi connection. Before purchasing, check your existing thermostat wiring -- if you only have four wires (R, W, Y, G) and no C-wire, you will need to add one. Options include running a new thermostat cable, using an add-a-wire adapter kit, or having an HVAC technician wire a C connection at the furnace control board.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Turn off HVAC power at the breaker. Confirm the system is off before working with any wires.
  2. Remove the old thermostat. Pull off the faceplate, photograph the wiring, and label each wire with the terminal letter it connects to.
  3. Remove the old base plate.
  4. Install the TJ-610 base plate using the included screws. Thread wires through the center opening.
  5. Connect wires to matching terminals. The TJ-610 has standard terminals: R, C, W, Y, G, O/B. Insert each wire and tighten the screw terminal.
  6. Mount the thermostat onto the base plate.
  7. Restore power at the breaker.
  8. Download the Vine app, create an account, and follow the in-app setup to connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi and configure your HVAC system type.

HVAC Compatibility Notes

The TJ-610 supports single-stage heating and cooling for conventional systems, and single-stage heat pump with auxiliary heat. It is not designed for multi-stage systems (no W2 or Y2 terminals). If you have a 2-stage furnace, this thermostat will only use the first stage. For heat pump systems, connect the O/B wire and select the correct reversing valve direction during app setup. The thermostat does not have terminals for humidity control equipment.

Smart Home Integration

The Vine TJ-610 works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control. You can set temperatures, switch modes, and ask for the current reading by voice. Apple HomeKit is not supported. The Vine app handles remote control, scheduling, and basic temperature monitoring. IFTTT integration is not available natively. For Home Assistant users, some community integrations exist, but official support is limited.

Energy Saving Features

  • 7-day programmable schedule lets you set different temperatures for each day of the week
  • Temperature hold lets you override the schedule temporarily without losing your programmed settings
  • Energy tracking in the Vine app shows basic runtime data
  • Auto-changeover switches between heating and cooling automatically based on the temperature, useful in spring and fall when both may be needed

Troubleshooting

  • No power or blank display: The TJ-610 requires a C-wire. If the thermostat does not turn on, check that the C-wire is connected at both the thermostat and furnace control board. Also verify the breaker is on and the R wire is connected.
  • Won't connect to Wi-Fi: The TJ-610 supports only 2.4GHz networks. If your router uses a combined SSID for both bands, the thermostat may fail to connect. Try temporarily splitting your Wi-Fi bands or creating a dedicated 2.4GHz-only SSID. Double-check the password entry on the touchscreen.
  • Touchscreen unresponsive: Power cycle the thermostat at the breaker. Turn the breaker off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. If the screen is working but sluggish, check for firmware updates in the Vine app.
  • HVAC not heating or cooling: Verify the system type setting matches your equipment. If you selected heat pump mode for a conventional system (or the reverse), the thermostat will not operate correctly. Check the W and Y wire connections if a specific mode does not work.
  • Schedule issues: Make sure the time zone is set correctly in the Vine app. An incorrect time zone will cause all scheduled events to fire at the wrong times.
  • Factory reset: Access the reset option through the Vine app or the thermostat's settings menu on the touchscreen.
