Important Safety Warning
Turn off power at the circuit breaker before installation. Ceiling fan installation may require two people due to weight. If you're not comfortable with electrical work, hire a licensed electrician.
What You'll Need
- Westinghouse Widespan Smart Ceiling Fan
- Smartphone with the Westinghouse app
- Ladder
- Screwdriver and wire strippers
- Fan-rated electrical box (required - must support fan weight)
- Wire nuts
Step 1: Turn Off Power
Turn off power at the circuit breaker. Use a voltage tester to confirm no power is present.
Step 2: Remove Old Fixture
Remove the existing light fixture or fan. If replacing a light, you may need to install a fan-rated electrical box.
Step 3: Install Mounting Bracket
Attach the Westinghouse Widespan Smart Ceiling Fan mounting bracket to the electrical box. Ensure it's secure - it must support the full weight of the fan.
Step 4: Assemble the Fan
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to assemble the fan motor, blades, and light kit (if included). This is usually easier to do before mounting.
Step 5: Connect Wires
Connect the wires: black to black (or red for separate light control), white to white, and green to green/bare ground. Secure with wire nuts and wrap with electrical tape.
Step 6: Mount the Fan
Hang the fan motor on the mounting bracket. This is where a second person helps. Secure according to instructions.
Step 7: Install Blades and Light
Attach the fan blades and light kit. Balance the blades if the fan wobbles.
Step 8: Restore Power and Set Up
Turn the power back on. Download the Westinghouse app and add the fan. Configure speeds, light settings, and schedules.
Smart Home Integration
The Westinghouse Widespan Smart Ceiling Fan works with Google Home, Amazon Alexa via WiFi. Control fan speed and lights with voice commands or automations.
Troubleshooting
- Fan wobbles: Check blade balance and tighten all screws
