What's in the Box

The Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus (Matter) package includes the exterior keypad escutcheon, the interior lock assembly with both Matter-over-Thread and WiFi radios built in, a mounting plate, a latch bolt, strike plates, four AA batteries, a DoorSense magnet, a key override set, installation hardware, and an installation guide. The "Plus" model is Yale's most connected lock, combining WiFi and Thread/Matter in a single unit. This dual-radio design means you get Matter compatibility with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings, plus direct WiFi remote access through the Yale Access app without needing a Thread border router for basic connectivity.

Prerequisites

Before installation, confirm the following:

  • Your door has a standard deadbolt preparation (2-1/8 inch face hole, 1-inch edge hole)
  • Door thickness is between 1-3/8 inches and 2-1/4 inches
  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network is available for WiFi features
  • For Matter: a Thread border router (Apple HomePod Mini, Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub 2nd gen, or SmartThings Station) is recommended but not required for basic WiFi operation
  • A Matter-compatible app and/or the Yale Access app installed on your phone
  • A Phillips-head screwdriver

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Remove the existing deadbolt from both sides of the door — interior assembly, exterior assembly, and latch bolt.
  2. Install the Yale latch bolt into the door edge with the "UP" marking facing upward and secure with screws.
  3. Mount the strike plate on the frame and verify the bolt extends into it smoothly.
  4. Feed the exterior keypad cable through the door hole and hold the exterior assembly flush against the door.
  5. On the interior side, position the mounting plate, connect the cable, and attach the interior assembly. Insert four AA batteries.
  6. Install the DoorSense magnet on the frame aligned with the indicator on the lock body.
  7. Test the bolt operation using both the keypad and the interior thumb turn before proceeding to app setup.

App Pairing and Configuration

Open the Yale Access app and start the setup wizard. The app connects via Bluetooth first for initial configuration. Create your master entry code and add user codes. The app will guide you through connecting to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network for remote access through the Yale Access app. For Matter integration, open your preferred smart home app (Apple Home, Google Home, etc.) and scan the Matter QR code. The lock will connect via Thread if a border router is available, or fall back to WiFi. Configure auto-lock timing, DoorSense open-door alerts, one-touch locking, and privacy mode. The Plus model's dual-radio design means you can use Yale Access features (like detailed activity history and guest access scheduling) over WiFi while simultaneously using the lock in Matter-compatible platforms via Thread.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The Assure Lock 2 Plus offers the most integration flexibility of any Yale lock. Use it in Apple HomeKit for Siri commands and HomeKit automations, in Google Home for routines, and in Alexa for voice control and bedtime routines — all at the same time thanks to Matter multi-admin. The WiFi radio provides direct cloud access through the Yale Access app for features not available through Matter, such as granular guest access schedules, detailed lock history with timestamps, and remote code management. Thread mesh networking ensures a reliable, low-latency connection that does not congest your WiFi network. If you have both Thread and WiFi connectivity, the lock intelligently routes commands through the optimal connection for speed and reliability.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the lock does not connect to WiFi, ensure your 2.4 GHz network is broadcasting and the lock is within range. If Matter pairing fails, verify your Thread border router is online and within 30 to 50 feet. The Plus model's dual-radio can sometimes cause confusion during setup — if you want to use Matter, pair via Matter first, then add WiFi through the Yale Access app. If the bolt jams, check door alignment and strike plate positioning. If battery life seems shorter than expected, the dual radios consume more power than single-radio models, so use high-quality lithium AA batteries for the longest life. Replace all four batteries at once to avoid performance inconsistencies.
