What's in the Box

The Yale Assure Lock 2 with WiFi package includes the exterior escutcheon (keypad assembly), the interior lock assembly with WiFi module built in, a mounting plate, a door latch bolt, strike plates (for both standard and deadbolt preparation), four AA batteries, a DoorSense magnet (for detecting if the door is open or closed), installation hardware, a key override set, and a detailed installation guide. The WiFi module is built directly into the lock, so no separate hub or module is required for remote access.

Prerequisites

Before installing your Yale Assure Lock 2, confirm the following:

  • Your door has a standard deadbolt preparation (a 2-1/8 inch hole on the face and a 1-inch hole on the edge)
  • The door is between 1-3/8 inches and 2-1/4 inches thick
  • Your door frame and deadbolt hole are properly aligned — a misaligned door can prevent the bolt from extending smoothly
  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network is available (the lock does not support 5 GHz)
  • The Yale Access app is installed on your smartphone (iOS or Android)
  • A Yale account is created within the Yale Access app
  • A Phillips-head screwdriver is handy

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Remove your existing deadbolt by unscrewing the interior thumb turn assembly, then removing the exterior assembly and the latch bolt from the edge of the door.
  2. Install the Yale latch bolt into the edge of the door, making sure the "UP" marking faces upward. Secure it with the included screws.
  3. Install the strike plate on the door frame. Use the reinforcement strike plate for added security. Test that the bolt extends and retracts into the strike plate smoothly before proceeding.
  4. Thread the cable from the exterior keypad assembly through the hole in the door face. Position the exterior assembly flat against the door.
  5. On the interior side, place the mounting plate over the bolt assembly and align the screw holes. Connect the cable from the exterior assembly to the interior lock assembly.
  6. Attach the interior assembly to the mounting plate, insert the four AA batteries, and secure everything with the included screws. Do not overtighten, as this can misalign the components.
  7. Install the DoorSense magnet on the door frame aligned with the mark on the lock body. This sensor detects whether the door is physically open or closed.

App Pairing and Configuration

Open the Yale Access app and tap "Set Up a New Device." Select the Assure Lock 2 and follow the on-screen instructions. The app will connect to the lock via Bluetooth first, then guide you through connecting it to your WiFi network. Create your master entry code (4 to 8 digits) and add additional user codes for family members or guests. Configure auto-lock timing so the door locks automatically after a set period — 30 seconds is a common choice. Enable DoorSense to receive alerts when the door is left open. Set up one-touch locking so you can lock the door by pressing any key on the keypad.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The Yale Assure Lock 2 with WiFi is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit. In the Yale Access app, navigate to the integrations section to link your preferred voice assistant. With Alexa, you can say "Alexa, lock the front door." With Apple HomeKit, the lock appears in the Home app and can be included in HomeKit automations and scenes. Create a "Goodnight" scene that locks all doors, turns off lights, and adjusts the thermostat. The Yale Access app also supports guest access with scheduled entry codes — perfect for dog walkers, house cleaners, or Airbnb guests who only need access during specific times.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the lock does not respond after installation, check that the batteries are inserted correctly and that the cable between the exterior and interior assemblies is securely connected. If the bolt does not extend or retract smoothly, the door may be misaligned — adjust the strike plate position or check that the latch bolt is oriented correctly. If the lock connects via Bluetooth but fails to connect to WiFi, make sure your router is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz and that the lock is within range. A WiFi extender near the door can help if signal strength is an issue.
