Airthings Wave monitors track radon, CO2, and air quality. This guide covers connectivity and accuracy issues.

Not Connecting to App

  1. Wave uses Bluetooth for phone sync
  2. Enable Bluetooth and location on phone
  3. Stand within 3 feet of device
  4. Wave in front of device to wake it
  5. Remove and re-pair in Airthings app

Hub Connection (Optional)

  1. Airthings Hub enables cloud sync
  2. Hub connects devices to WiFi/cloud
  3. Extend range with multiple hubs
  4. Hub required for continuous monitoring
  5. Without hub, manual sync via app needed

Radon Readings (Wave Plus)

  1. Radon sensor needs 7 days for accurate readings
  2. First readings may fluctuate significantly
  3. Place device in lowest lived-in level
  4. Avoid near windows, doors, or HVAC vents
  5. Radon varies daily - look at long-term average

CO2 Readings Seem Wrong

  1. CO2 sensor auto-calibrates over time
  2. Needs exposure to fresh air periodically
  3. Place away from people breathing directly
  4. Baseline is ~400 ppm outdoor air
  5. Indoor 1000+ ppm indicates poor ventilation

Home Assistant Integration

  1. Use Airthings BLE integration for direct connection
  2. Requires Bluetooth proxy (ESP32) for range
  3. Alternative: Airthings Cloud integration via API
  4. Cloud API has 5-minute update delay
  5. BLE provides near real-time updates

Battery Replacement

  1. Wave uses 2x AA batteries
  2. Wave Mini uses 3x AAA batteries
  3. Battery life is 1.5-2 years typical
  4. Low battery warning in app
  5. LED color indicates air quality (green/yellow/red)
