Common Causes
- Brightness set too low or Night Mode schedule enabled
- Adaptive brightness sensor malfunctioning or misinterpreting ambient light
- Software glitch causing the display to freeze, show a black screen, or render content incorrectly
- Wi-Fi disconnection preventing content from loading on the 15.6-inch display
- Widget layout corruption after a failed software update
- Screen burn-in or dead pixels from prolonged static content display
Step 1: Wake the Display and Check Brightness
- Tap the screen or say "Alexa" to wake the Echo Show 15 from standby. The large display may appear off when in sleep mode.
- Swipe down from the top and adjust the brightness slider. If the slider is at minimum, increase it to verify the display is functioning.
- Disable Adaptive Brightness temporarily by going to Settings > Display > Adaptive Brightness and toggling it off. This rules out the ambient light sensor misreading conditions.
- Check if Night Mode is enabled under Settings > Display > Night Mode. If a schedule is set, adjust or disable it to restore normal brightness.
Step 2: Fix Frozen or Unresponsive Screen
- If the display is frozen and does not respond to touch, press and hold the Mute button and Volume Down button simultaneously for 15 seconds to force a restart.
- If the screen shows content but touch is not working, try wiping the display with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Fingerprints, moisture, or screen protector residue can interfere with touch sensitivity.
- Make sure nothing is pressing against the screen if the device is wall-mounted, as persistent pressure can cause erratic touch behavior.
Step 3: Restart the Echo Show 15
- Unplug the device from the wall outlet (or junction box if hardwired via the optional stand adapter).
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait for the Amazon logo to appear, followed by the full startup sequence.
- After the home screen loads, navigate through widgets, the clock, and photo frame to confirm the display is operating normally.
Step 4: Fix Widget Display Issues
If widgets are not loading, showing blank spaces, or displaying outdated information:
- Swipe right on the home screen and long-press to enter edit mode.
- Remove any problematic widgets by tapping the X on them.
- Re-add the widgets by tapping Add Widget and selecting them from the list.
- If calendar or reminder widgets show incorrect data, verify that your calendar accounts are still linked in the Alexa app under Settings > Calendar & Email.
Step 5: Check Wi-Fi Connection
- Swipe down from the top and look at the Wi-Fi icon. If there is no connection, the display cannot load photos, weather, news, or streaming content.
- Go to Settings > Network and reconnect to your Wi-Fi if needed.
- Restart your router if the connection fails: unplug the router for 60 seconds, plug it back in, and wait for it to fully restart before trying again.
- If the Echo Show 15 is wall-mounted far from the router, the Wi-Fi signal may be weak. Check signal strength in Settings > Network and consider adding a mesh network node or Wi-Fi extender nearby.
Step 6: Update Software
- Outdated software can cause display rendering issues. Go to Settings > Device Options > Check for Software Updates.
- If an update is available, let it install completely. The device will restart.
- After updating, check if the display issues are resolved.
Step 7: Address Screen Orientation Issues
- The Echo Show 15 can be mounted in landscape or portrait orientation. If the display content is rotated incorrectly, go to Settings > Display > Screen Orientation.
- Select the correct orientation to match your physical mounting position.
- If you recently moved or remounted the device, the orientation setting may need to be updated.
Step 8: Factory Reset
- If display problems continue, perform a factory reset. Go to Settings > Device Options > Reset to Factory Defaults.
- After the reset, you will need to set up the device again, re-link your accounts, and reconfigure your widgets.
- A factory reset often resolves persistent software-related display issues.
When to Contact Support
If the display has physical damage, persistent dead pixels, backlight bleeding, or visible lines across the screen after a factory reset, the panel itself may be defective. Contact Amazon Customer Support for warranty assessment. For wall-mounted units, have someone help you safely remove the device if it needs to be returned.
