Amazon Echo Show devices combine voice assistant capabilities with a touchscreen display. This guide covers common display and visual issues across Echo Show models.

Common Symptoms

  • Screen is black or unresponsive
  • Display shows static or distorted images
  • Touch screen not responding to input
  • Screen brightness issues or flickering
  • Video calls showing poor quality
  • Widgets or home screen not loading

Screen Won't Turn On

1. Check Power Connection

  • Verify power adapter is connected securely
  • Use only the original Amazon power adapter
  • Try a different outlet to rule out power issues
  • Check that LED on adapter shows power (if applicable)

2. Force Restart

  1. Unplug the Echo Show from power
  2. Wait 30 seconds
  3. Plug back in and wait for boot sequence
  4. Display should show Amazon logo during startup

3. Check Do Not Disturb Mode

  • Screen dims significantly in Do Not Disturb mode
  • Say "Alexa, turn off Do Not Disturb"
  • Check scheduled DND times in Alexa app

Touch Screen Issues

Not Responding to Touch

  • Clean screen with soft, lint-free cloth
  • Remove screen protector if installed
  • Restart device to clear temporary issues
  • Ensure hands are dry and clean

Touch Sensitivity Problems

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch Accommodations
  • Adjust touch settings if available
  • Factory reset if touch issues persist

Display Quality Issues

Brightness Problems

  1. Swipe down from top to access quick settings
  2. Adjust brightness slider manually
  3. Disable Adaptive Brightness if causing issues
  4. Settings > Display > Adaptive Brightness

Color Issues

  • Check color settings in Display menu
  • Night Mode can alter colors—disable if unwanted
  • Restart device if colors appear wrong

Video Call Problems

Camera Not Working

  1. Ensure camera shutter is open (physical slider on device)
  2. Check camera permissions in Settings > Privacy
  3. Test camera with "Alexa, show me the camera"
  4. Restart if camera feed is frozen or black

Poor Video Quality

  • Improve WiFi signal strength
  • Close other video streams on network
  • Ensure adequate lighting for video calls
  • Update to latest software

Home Screen Issues

Widgets Not Loading

  • Check internet connection
  • Pull down to refresh home screen
  • Go to Settings > Home Content to configure widgets
  • Restart device if widgets remain blank

Photos Not Displaying

  1. Verify Amazon Photos is linked in Alexa app
  2. Check selected albums in Home Screen settings
  3. Ensure photos are synced to Amazon Photos cloud
  4. Refresh connection to photo services

Software Issues

Update Device Software

  1. Go to Settings > Device Options > Software Version
  2. Select Check for Updates
  3. Install if update available
  4. Device will restart after update

Factory Reset (Last Resort)

  1. Go to Settings > Device Options > Reset to Factory Defaults
  2. Confirm reset and wait for device to wipe
  3. Set up as new device through Alexa app
  4. Note: This erases all settings and preferences

Contact Amazon support if:

  • Physical damage to screen (cracks, dead pixels)
  • Screen remains black after all troubleshooting
  • Burning smell or overheating
  • Touch screen consistently unresponsive
